| Are you thinking of the former 'FIE' tip where there was a square brass contact you could just turn with you fingers - rather than a contact spring (also a square ridge on the cup to match)?
Don't think they make them anymore............

Don't think they make them anymore............ | no. the tip i'm talking about has a tiny screw embedded in it. the length of the contact spring is controlled by turning this screw with a screwdriver as opposed to turning it with the fingers. its much easier to get the contact distance close to 0.5mm without exceeding it (i.e. something like 0.45mm or something).
actually i just found what i was looking for on blue gauntlet..its the SG FIE tip. |

| never seen those before - interesting.
Any problems with the screw loosening over time?
Not that I would ever wish to loose the sense of inner tranquility I get from adjusting my contact springs mind you.

| The Tip is made by SG and Sold by Blue Gaulet and I believe by Albouste Fencing. It's a cool tip. I replace all of my chulderns epee tip with this one and it used both german and french wires. I use the german wire myself because of the cup

| The tips are not bad (for French tips anyway) but I have had the little plastic collar around the spring break off and damage the cup/wire/spring on one and the other tip I tried out disentigrated/failed in a fairly short amount of time, at least compared to an LP or German tip. Also you have to be careful just using the old barrels with the tips as replacement as they are not 100% compatable with all French tips.
