Food

Which is your favorite cuisine? Which is your least favorite cuisine? What are some of the more exotic things you've tried?

I'll pass on my brother's story - he just retired after 33 yrs in the navy. He was visiting the middle-east as part of Central Command. They were watching maneuvers of the Jordanian Army when the King of Jordan showed up to watch. A tent was set up and they were invited to lunch - they had some kind of braised meat, and then the dessert delicacy was brought out - chilled sheep brains - served in the sheep skulls. Then as a token of great esteem, my brother's boss (a 3 star general,IIRC) was given the ultimate specialty - the EYEBALLS to eat. My brother sure was glad he was outranked that day.


(I expect a big ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww from ZilverZ.)

I love Pizza, too. Greek rules even more. Italian is alright, it just depends on how good the pasta is (not over-cooked or gluey). I eat mostly western-ish food.

Lately my favorite food is Vietnamean food. They know how to balance spicey, tangy and salty so well and they include a lot of fresh herbs and veggies in their dishes.

My least favorite is Japanese food. The art of Japanese cooking is the art of Oriental trickery. Take a piece of fish and do absolutely nothing to it and charge 5 times more for it than the cooked food.

Some of the less common things I have eaten: Squid, live moving octopus, geoduck clam, raw abalone, king cobra, rice paddy mice, squab, mantis shrimp, kona crab, duck embryo in the egg, gelantinized duck blood with fresh herbs, sea urchin, steamed pork blood, steamed chicken feet, roast turtle, turtle soup, curried frog, iguana, dried grasshoppers, whale and dolphin, durian, orangutan paw, dog (bbq, stewed and jerky), cat with noodles in soup, bird's nest, shark's fin, all different kinds of snails from escargot to sea snails, sea cucumbers, fish eyes (raw and cooked), garlic ice-cream, raw blue crab head mixed with short grain rice and chilli.......uh...can't think of anything else for now but there is more.

Ah yes. Al dente. If it's not al dente then it's throw away. American Italian food is distgusting. It doesn't look or taste like Italian food in anyway. Just dish after dish of soft gooey spaghetti with sour runny red crap poured all over the top of it.

The fear factor stuff is nothing. I could eat that stuff all day long. They just make is look gross because they dump it all in a container and scoop it out with their hands. I was even thinking about going on fear factor but I'm scared of heights.

Oh yeah and I've also had Chinese hundred year old preserved duck eggs. These thing were preserved in a mixture of charcoal, hay and horse dung. The eggs are a translucent obsidian black and the yolk is also black and gooey. Yum Yum!

I never thought I would agree with you but I AGREE! Chinese hundred year old preserved duck eggs are Droolworthy...specially with a little bit of pickled ginger.

It's unleavened bread but is quite different. It's a little fluffier and you can make it with different type of filling baked inside.

oooh rice porridge....yum. That would be a good mixture actually....the duck egg has that really rich taste, and the congee has the softness.

Kim Chee is good as well, though finding GOOD Kim Chee is hard.

Curries of any sort are always high in my book, though after living in college for a year and having Indians make curry for you, the stuff you buy from Indian take aways just dont taste the same....

I just like food. I don't really have favourites, but if I was pressed it would be cheesecak or apple pie. As for general cuisine that would probably be Chinese or Japanese food.

I tend to like "bad" food- if they serve it in a bar, chances are I like it. Cheese sticks, potato skins, cheese fries, buffalo chicken...give me a heart attack, or give me death. My real favorite food ever is steak, though. It gets kind of expensive sometimes, but it is SO worth it. The greatest thing I've ever eaten was an obscenely juicy, perfectly medium rare sirloin marinated with cajun spices.

Pardon me, I have to go get some napkins to wipe up my drool.

I was just joking. Anyhow I hate Mexican food. Mexican food to me is all dried up shredded meat, dry cornflour and a bunch of cheese topped with sour hot sauce that isn't even all that hot.

Oh God you eat Kim Chee? I can't stand it. The smell make me want to vomit! There are people are actually addicted to Kim Chee. Hence why I said finding GOOD Kim Chee is hard.....I think I have only had decent stuff once, and that was like 17 years ago at a Korean Resturant in Brisbane where the chef couldnt speak a word of English.

Anyway I like lots of different cuisines. Thai is fantastic, as is most Indian, Italian and Greek. Chinese is ok too and I love (most) sushi!

Also most of the traditional swedish dishes are really good.

Worst I've tried? I like trying new things but I think it was when someone asked me to try a piece of meat, which I did, and it tasted awful -- disgustingly 'spongy' -- and then told me it was tongue...

Oh yes, I once tried 'Kidney Pie' too. I will not do it again.

Favourite food has got to be my the lasagna my Mom makes. Also a huge fan of homemade perogies.

Least favourite food that I've eaten so far is probably anything that lives its life in water.

Exotic foods? Hmm... I'm a pretty plain fellow, so I don't think I've really eaten too much "exotic" food.
