| Maccabiah
Is anyone going to maccabiah, in Israel? I leave in about a week.
Has anyone gone before, or knows anyone who is going? What's the level of competition like, in general. I'm doing the mens foil.

| I have heard it is a strong tournament. The Jacobson's went for Women's Sabre.

| I've also heard Dan Kellner is also a fairly regular appearance there, if that gives you any idea of what the level of the tournament will be like.

| I can tell you that there will most likely be no Canadian team this year as Maccabi Canada sent Canadian team members an email stating they had no funds to send a fencing team this year.
However, if we wanted to spend $6,000 each they would love to have us  .
It's too bad. I was looking forward to going to Israel. | |

| The level of competition naturally depends on the participants, and that varies with each year.
Naturally, with the already political nature of the games the attendance is very much dependant on political circumstances that year.
The comps this year are very strong in comparison to the last couple of games.
From the Israeli side Tomer Or almost assuredly will attend, as well as the Hatuel cousins, and Men's foil has always registered a fine American attendance. I have been told that Kellner and Tiomkin confirmed, as well as Epee's Soren Thompson. An Ukranian WE world champion will attend but the name was momentarily forgotten by the person informing me.
As for Sabre events, They will not take place this year.
I will ask more informed people as to more confirmed names, but the overall impression is that this year is going to be a strong event altogether.

| Ukrainian WE world champion would be Natalia Conrad.
There will be a French team in men's epee, which should be pretty strong (no names yet, sorry)

I wasn't sure whether it was the current senior w'champion and had left the option for a past junior w'champion. If it's Conrad, much better.

anyone know how many countries are in the fencing?
and are they all putting teams in? i'm the only aussie fencer, are composite teams allowed?
what level of refereeing is it?
there's a weapons check beforehand. there's a meeting the week before the event, training times and weapons check times will be decided then i think. | |

AFAIK, she's the only individual senior world champion from Ukraine in women's epee, I didn't think it would be a junior. But you're right it could be someone else.
