| I'll try to answer some questions, they are out of general knowledge, I'm not an official of the Maccabiah.
1) It's a FIE standertized comp, that means top level refereeing and weapons inspections, FIE gear etc. I have no knowledge if it awards FIE points, my guess is no due to the whole race/religion thing.
2) This is a guess, but seeing as Israel has no sabre (virtually), and seing as in previous years few international competitors arrived due to the shaky security situation, the IFF decided that it isn't set to hold sabre events.
As I recollect, it is a shame, seeing as many top sabrists are qualified to participate in the Maccabiah, and indeed have. Charikov, the Jacobson sisters etc.
3) the prerequisite does seem silly to me, I would have rathered it were an open comp, but I do not see a particular probem with it, seeing as Judaism is still a persecuted entity world wide. Only yesterday the atterney general of Russia has ordered an official inquirey into the "Shulkhan Arukh", the Jewish book of "halacha" - ordinances, and whether it contained anty christian messeges, a sort of modern metamorphysis of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion as well as an inquiry as to whether all jewish organizations should be outlawed in Russia. That's no joke. Just plain old traditional antisemitism. If they had Cossacks, they would still make pogroms in Russia, believe you me.
4) I don't know how one would sign up, my guess is that through your national Maccabi offices. I'm adding a link to the Maccabiah as well as for the Junior Maccabiah web site, I'm sure it may hold the general information relevant. Maccabiah Junior Maccabiah
And it is Conrad. So as I said, attendance is worth your while.

| I confirm.
I was there 4 years ago. It is a unique experience (especially when you know you will never do the OG).
The french team will be composed by 4 men epee and 2 men sabre.
I think that the sabre competition should be organized (I hope so!).
I have no other informations about the fencers from other coutries. |

| I'd like to correct myself:
Having said that sabre events will not be held, Womens Sabre events alone will not, Mens Sabre are on - Charikov is with us these very days.
Also, if there is anyone who's attending here on this board, please post your experience. Or just pm me if you wish either to wax proud or *****, whatever...

| I edited out some posts in this thread because they looked to be the start of a flame fest. All of the posts in the side "branch" were deleted as (1) they built upon each other (2) subsequent posts made no sense once one of the series was deleted and (3) I was not targeted any single individual with this action.
The comment/question of limiting the Maccabiah Games to Jews has been restated within another post in the thread. Feel free to continue the discussion down that route if you want.
I personally have one of those senses of humor that loves the "Boomer Bible" but to keep any inkling of sanity I have to step in when I see the beginnings of what have historically blown up into full fledged flame fests.

| Kellner was not at the Summer Nationals because he was going to the Maccabiah games. Same with Michael Pearce (who, if he were to go to Nationals as well, would not have had to make much of an effort to go to Nationals). But, Tiomkin was at Nationals, as were Kfir and Or (Israelis). Thompson was not at Nationals, but I think Rosenberg was. Then again, Rosenberg may not have qualified (if there is a qualification process) to go to the Maccabiah games.

| SJB, I agree that it totally stinks that canada has no funds for the Macabiah. I'm not Jewsih myself so it does not affect me all that much, but my coach (Victor Gantsevich) was slated to be the head coach for our country's fencing team.... And he would have loved going there..
I've talked to several people who have attended in the past (including my coach) and they all say it's an experience of a lifetime. |

| David Rosenberg was neither at nationals nor at the Maccabiah Games. He has taken this year off due to his recent marriage and new child. The mens' epee team in israel consists of Soren Thompson, Michael Feldschuh and Michael Pearce. |

| I see that the ind. men's foil final was Or-Kellner, Or taking gold.
This should have been a great bout, I wish I could watch it.
