| Ultimate Zeppelin!!!!1!!!!!!one!!!!! LZ and 1337 go together like pie and orange juice. Anyway, this is to decide what the greatest LZ album of all time is. This is no random thread. This is the most important issue ever to hit the Water Cooler in the last 10 years. Since before it was even created. Yeah. I went there. What are you going to do about it?
I thought about separating Physical Graffiti into A and B so there would be perfectly ten options, but I've melded them into one so we'll have 9. Choose carefully. And Vote fast- and get all your friends to vote. And their friends, and their friends, and their friends.....
We have 1 week. And then the votes will be final. FRICKIN MOTHERDAMNSH!TC0CKBAGM@RTHATSTEW@RTWHOPNEGROCRACKE RYANKEE'SFANREDNECK*****ROBERTPLANT'SMUSTACHE!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It had an error! But it posted anyway!!!! Why me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

| Kind of confusing introduction, but the question is simple enough. Best Zeppelin album? Led Zeppelin II without a doubt and I'll tell you why:
1)Whole Lotta Love
2)What is and What Should Never Be
3)Lemon Song
4)Thank You
5)Heartbreaker
6)Living Loving Maid (She's Just a Woman)
7)Ramble On
8)Moby Dick
9)Bring it On Home
Need I say more?
Edit: Oops, just saw the changes, but I want to leave this out there, because it's true. As for the next question, I really have no idea. I'm more of an appreciator than a rater.

| I'd say either IV, In Thru the Out Door, or Coda. If I have to choose? Coda. The grand Finale, baby. |

| IV I kinda understand, but Coda as their best? I think that's a stretch. Of course, I like their earlier stuff so much more, so that may be just me.

| Can I fit all of Zep's stuff onto one album and vote for that? What about that huge boxed set? Can I count that?
Okay, if I can just count their studio albums plus "Coda," I'd rank them:
1. IV. It may be played and hyped the most of all their albums, but it can't be overplayed or overhyped. Consistently strong from beginning to end. It includes "Stairway" in the middle, and the rest of the tracks are so good that "Stairway" barely stands out. It sold a bazillion copies for a reason - it's probably one of the best 5 rock albums ever.
2. I. This album is one of their most connected to their blues roots, and it's a fun debut. "Dazed and Confused" is the classic track, but everything on the album is good. On my personal top-10 favorite rock albums list.
3. II. Everything from a Muddy Waters-inspired jam ("Killing Floor" a.k.a. "The Lemon Song") to the romping "Hearbreaker"/"Livin' Lovin' Maid" to Bonzo's solo on "Moby Dick." Gets better with multiple listenings.
4. Physical Graffiti 1. I find "In My Time of Dying" a little ponderous, but it's followed by "Houses of the Holy" and the iconic "Kashmir."
5. Houses of the Holy. A trippy album that has strong, listenable tracks from beginning to end. It might have dropped a bit on my list because I lived down the hall in college from a guy who blasted this 24/7 for a while.
6. In Through the Out Door. A lot of people won't listen to this late Zep stuff. They were one of the first bands to move toward an electronic sound, and it didn't quite catch on. Indeed, "Carouselambra" hasn't aged well. But, I have to give them points for innovating, and "Fool in the Rain" is one of their best tracks.
7. III. This is probably only so far down because it had to follow II and precede IV. It's a great album. I can't listen to "Immigrant Song" anymore without picturing Viking kittens, though.
8. Presence. I think there's a big dropoff on my list from the first 7 I listed to this one. It's an okay album, but I've never been into it as much as some of their other records. "Nobody's Fault But Mine" is a classic. You can see some of the movement toward electronica in this album.
9. Physical Graffiti 2. Nothing wrong with it, but compared with their other albums, it lacks memorable tracks. Most of the good stuff on this double album went on the first record.
10. Coda. This is the "Well, the band broke up a couple years ago, so let's release what tape we have sitting around to make some more money" album. It's short, not bad, but nothing compared to their best stuff. I play my copy maybe every other year. |

| I have the big 10 CD set, so I've been listening to them each in order. I think it got better with each album- I better than II and so forth up to four. And I love In thru the Out Door, despite what may be said. 2 was all songs I knew, but they were all eh. Not particularly brilliant. They weren't as good in the younger years- they were one of the bands that got smarter as they aged- not like Guns N' Roses which started out great and never really caught up to itself. They changed, but their fans didn't. Their fans were still in the same dumb place. Fortunately, LZ was good enough they could be brilliant but still have the kind of dumb basic power to become great. |

| Oh, man... I think I have a problem.
When I read the thread name, I thought it was referring to a bunch of people in a park, throwing a little blimp around...

| Are you including bootlegs? I've got the 2 CD version of Destroyer [Swinging Pig], that I picked up in Germany:
Recorded live at the Richfield Coliseum, Cleveland, Ohio [which no longer exists] on 04/27/77.
Disc1
1. The Song Remains The Same
2. The Rover Intro / Sick Again
3. Nobody's Fault But Mine
4. In My Time Of Dying
5. Since I've Been Loving You
6. No Quarter
7. Ten Years Gone
Disc2
1. The Battle Of Evermore
2. Going To California
3. Black Country Woman
4. Bron-Y-Aur Stomp
5. White Summer / Black Mountain Side
6. Kashmir
7. Guitar Solo / Achilles Last Stand
8. Stairway To Heaven
9. Rock And Roll
10. Trampled Underfoot
Somewhere there's a 3 disc version. I got this at the same time as the boxed set from 1990, so it wsa cool to have the chance to flip back and forth from studio to live performance. |
