| Poll: How long does your NON-FIE blade last? A frequent topic for discussion is the cost/value of FIE vs. non-FIE blades. Please answer the poll with the average life expectancy of a non-FIE blade in your experience. (Foil and Epee only please.) |

| Non-FIE blades last indefinitely, if you keep them in the closet and don't fence with them.
This is hard comparison because the people who generally fence with FIE blades tend to fence much more.

| a few weeks ago i broke (both) of my two non-FIE blades that I had for about a year now, in the same night. i had been fencing more intensely with them for the past six months, but mabye once a week for the first six months. I was pretty lucky and they lasted pretty long considering, I just bought my first FIE blade and am very happy with it. |

| I have several old France Lames blades which are still going, since 96 (fake FIE stamped version) blades typically last 1 1/2 seasons with the older blades giving up the ghost during practices I have yet to have a LP non maranging bust on me but I just got this one at the end of last season so...
fencing intensity meter: club 2 nights a week / epee lessons / one tourney a month (local / regional) |

| 3-6 months... longest one lasted for almost 9 months but I think that one I didn't use it as often. Then there was one that lasted for... a bout and someone stepped on it then snap! ehh but I guess that doesn't count :P
No more non-FIE blades for me tho...

| 6-9 months, with a regular rotation (every practice or two) between two or three blades.

| Each time I read this kind of thread, that makes me really glad I fence with a French handle... and NEVER break a blade! |

(Anyway, I very rarely break blades. I last broke one in September/October (?) last year. Before that it was some ~2 years.)

| I have had my blades for over a year minimum my foil blades are closer to 3 years old. I have only bought one fie epee blade ever. I find more wire breakage with the non-fie but I actually keep all my blades seperate from the rest of my gear which cuts down on rusting. Balaance and feel FIE all the way but I just have not seen a durability issue in the non-fie vs the fie blades. I have put some really ugly bends in them on occasion but I have only ever broken 1 blade in the 7 years I have fenced.

| Think I've broken ~8 non-FIE, non maraging blades in the course of ~2.5 years, fencing with varying frequency. Probably a period of about 4 months without fencing at all. All other times, averaging 3 practices a week. Around 15-20 tournaments as well. |

| I fence roughly 4 times a week. My non-fie blades are about 2 - 3 years old. However, I'm told I have a very light touch. I don't know if this would factor into it or not. |

| I fenced twice a week at the club, one Allstar dry foil, two Allstar electric. None have broken so far, although I've got a wicked S in one of the electric foils... it's been 9 months.

| I answered for epee with my LP blades, which have yet to break. If it were foil I would say 3-6 months for the StM's that I tend to use for the club.

| I said 6-9, I think that's pretty accurate but I've only broken 3 blades (french grips) and they all decided to break within a week in exactly the same spot. Since then I've been very about how much I tighten my pommel and haven't had an issue.
