I don't use paper towels - I buy huge packs of cheap white cotton washcloths (flannels to you brits), and put them in a drawer in the kitchen. I keep a covered bucket next to the sink. Wipe up a spill, into the bucket. The bucket gets full (every other day or so - I have a 3 year old) then into the washer on hot with bleach, then into the dryer on hot (not many germs can survive that treatment) and back into the drawer. Eventually the bleach eats the cotton - use it once more, then into the trash.
Saves the trees (cotton is renewable)
OK, so maybe the bleach creates some dioxins. You can't have everything.
