| Uhlmann/Allstar grip gloves? I was browsing Absolute and Fencing Post, and I see that Uhlmann has a new "super grip" glove. Can anyone give me more information on these? I kinda need a new glove, as the last one lasted a mere 4.5 years of moderate use.
Uhlmann's website says the following: Quote: |
combination glove "Champion EXTRA", sz. 6,5 - 11 with adhesive surface on the palm for better grip
| What's the adhesive? How fast does it wear off? Is it worth the extra 6 Euros/ ~ $8.00USD?
Thanks!

| Surprisingly enough, I have one of these things. I bought it in a moment of extreme weakness and, to be honest, I prefer the regular leather gloves.
The concept is good -- the glove "sticks" to the grip and you get some good gripping ability. What they've done is they've scattered a lot of little rubber "pimples" all over the glove so the glove will adhere better to whatever grip you're using. It works well with the pistol grip that I use. I would, however, make sure that the glove is a nice tight fit -- the one I have (my fault) isn't that tight a fit so when the glove seems to slip a bit, well, the grip travels with it.
If you can, I'd suggest trying it out first -- put on the glove and see how it feels with your grip and see if it's something you'll like. I wasn't too keen on it after I bought it. :-( I found it a bit TOO sticky!
Doh! I just checked the Uhlmann website and the glove that I DID buy was the Allstar "gripster" glove. If this is what you're referring to, then my comments remain.

| The little sticky things come off after a short amount of time. In my opinion, the glove is not worth the extra cost. |

| I have one of these and it is my favorite glove. Not because of the silly plastic pimples as they come off on the extreme wear spots in about a month, but because it is very thin in the palm and very soft and flexable. I prefer it to my standard Uhlmann glove a great deal. It also seems to have a bit less padding on the back than my standard glove which I like as well. I keep threateneing to just cut a hole in some of my old nomex pilots gloves and fence with those as I don't like a thick glove at all so take that into account.
Even after the grippy peices wear off on the heavy wear areas the glove still seems to give me a bit more grip/control than average wich is really nice, but it is weird having bare spots on the glove and I am sure that those spots are going to break down and turn into holes before I am halfway into the new season.
In short I like the fit, love the feel, but they are not as durable as the standard glove and are more of a gimmick than anything else. If you want to have a better grip on your weapon try the spiffy Leon Paul grips with their super grippy paint jobs. They are by far the best I have ever seen and so easy to hold onto. Plus they last a LOT longer than the Uhlmann glove will and are only about $17 dollars. So if you are looking to get more control of your weapon the gripstar gloves are marginal at best but if you like the feel of a thinner glove then they are cool.

| There are more reviews for the glove posted under fencing.net product reviews: http://www.fencing101.com/reviews/ce...ils&itemid=141

| Try here--I've never used one, but I assume that the 'crinkle coated for maximum grip' business is what he's talking about.

| Yep those are the ones. If you clip on the Gpro "more Information" button above the normal grips it gives you a bit more detail. The coating is really very spiffy and for improving ones grip I think they work out better than the "grippy" gloves for that purpose.
