Array National Flags on Breeches @ Coupes du monde & Championnats du monde I thought this might be of interest - actually, there are some very interesting national flags/colors to be found.
As the file is too heavy to attach, you'll have to download it from the official FIE site, it's posted under news. This is the link: http://www.fie.ch/download/homepage/...enues%20FN.pdf
or www.fie.ch under chapter "news", with the title: Tenues des FN pour les Coupes du monde.......

I have to say I'm somewhat disappointed with New Zealand's design -- it's ok, but they probably could have done something a bit more interesting with their Fencing Fern. -

Array Brazil's an thailand's logo are my favorites, but,
(being dutch) I have to say that our national tulip logo is a bit silly...
Whoever came up with the tulips? What's next? Clogs, windmills, dikes?
Which logo is the most silly in your opinion? -

Array I've seen most of them also in life, but my favourites are Britain, Australia, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Hungary (oh my, if we had such cool, bright colours also on the clothes!!!!) ***Nusy***

Array I like the thailand, canada and korean ones... I think the USA needs a new one. "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. And from this side only! The flight of a half-man, half-bird. Dinosaurs nuzzling their young in pastures where strip malls should be. Cookies on dowels. All those moment, lost in time. Gone, like eggs off a hooker's stomach. Time to die" -Phil Ken Sebben -
congo's is just weird..... -

How often do you get to see it though. I mean has anyone ever seen a fencer from Congo?
On a side note; does anyone know why Russia has the olympic rings in their symbol? I've always wondered that but have never gotten around to ask any russian fencer... -
I thought Saudi Arabia's was awesome. They turned a letter into a fencer...neat stuff.
Honorable mention goes to Algeria, for having the colors labelled. I think that's funny, for some reason.
Congo's is wicked cool. -

I think that's the croquit of the design. It's not what's actually going to be seen on the breeches. You surely wouldn't write on your breeches that this is your national logo. Possibly, Algeria (really, this is a huge assumption without having taken the time to check) has just never fenced on this level and weren't ready to provide the FIE with a finished picture.
I like the one from Belgium (simple but nice), Congo is totally cool, Mexico kinda has something to it, the Netherlands indeed play with a cliché - I think they should have done something with Orange only and their lion, Switzerland looks boring, have seen it on the breeches too, not worth to talk about, Thailand is cool too. Array Is it kosher for Russia to incorporate the Olympic rings into their design? -

I'm surprised to see so few votes for Brazil. I thought theirs was great. Norway's is also pretty cool. Iraq's is...interesting. It kinda looks like a design from a poker deck. Also, honorable mention for Chile and Jordan. -

My thoughts on the logos:
Algeria: Not too bad...standard incorporation of the central symbol from the national flag...would like to see a finished version.
Germany: Varient on the flag. but major yawn...looks like someone got swiped by a multi-colored set of claws.
Argentina: basic flag without the central sun symbol...interesting that they point the form UP instead of down the leg like most of the other logos.
Azerbaijan: Natl flag....yawn
Armenia: ditto
Australia: Now THIS one is cool...country initials combined with the Southern Cross.
Belgium: Very nice variation on the Germany logo. More stylized in the stripes, and the swirl that makes the B is a very nice touch.
Belarus: rather interesting, actually...looks like a rug design...wonder if it's a ribbon that's sewn into the seam, or silk-screened...
Brasil: Definitely the best use of the country flag in the design...nice sense of movement...logo on the arm, leg, AND sock is a bit much, tho.
Bulgaria: Logo is fairly good (three crossed weapons being a lion rampant), but on a very basic design...
Cuba: Oh for cryin' out loud, Fidel! Couldn't you do better than simply changing the color fo the stripes on an Adidas/Allstar uni?
Canada: The maple leaf is very distinctive, and I've always liked the patch logo
Croatia: Sorry...all I think of when I see this one is "Pawn to queen's level 3"
Chile: Could stand to be a little bigger for more impact, but a unique design.
China: Very nice sense of movement...thank you for NOT putting a hammer and sickle in there.
Congo: Without a doubt, the most unique national logo you'll ever see in ANY sport!! Too bad the eyes aren't open so they'd follow people around the room. Something VERY cool about this one.
Czech Republic: The most popular basic design (looooong triangle pointing down the leg)...looks the most like an epee blade.
Denmark: Basic design....flag pattern....yawn
Spain: Same as Germany...el yawn
France: see Cuba
Estonia: See Armenia
Great Britain: Same as Belarus...splitting the flag in half is a nice artistic touch
Greece: See Denmark....points for the upward orientation, tho.
Hong Kong: *****in'!
Hungary: See Czech Republic
India: No imagination whatsoever...the swords behind the Taj Mahal, or Shiva wielding the three weapons would've been cool.
Iraq: nice variant on the standard design...
Iceland: boring
Israel: you KNEW the Star of David would be there....nice formatting...looks like it's being sucked into a black hole, tho.
Ireland: Even FRANCE was better! Ick!
Japan: Uhhhh, guys....take a lesson from Israel....you have one of the most easily recognized flags in the world...you don't NEED to put “JAPAN” on it! Heck....you don’t even need the flag outline....just slap the meatball on top and we’ve got it....if you’re still not sure, put something anime on it...we all know where Pikachu comes from
Jordan: Like Iraq, a nice variant on the flag...should be larger
Korea: nice tgry....but makes me want to trim the hedges
Saudi Arabia: Points for the letter into a fencer....but way too busy
Malaysia: Very nice
Mexico: Nice incorporation of the natl. logo...points for the very asymmetric design
Monaco: What....no pic of Grace Kelly??? How about a casino? Boring
Netherlands: Yes...agree with Genjuro
Norway: Yawn
New Zealand: I'm missing the significance of the flora...and if you're going to use black, incorporate a Maori design...
Poland: Armenia part three...
Portugal: Moderately boring...points on the size
Philippines: See Norway
Romania: What IS it with the eastern block guys....no friggin' imagination??
Russia: Guys....it's past time to get your OWN logo....but points on turning the country flag into the Olympic flame...
South Africa: Country colors variant...way too busy (but the flag is, too)
Serbia & Montenegro: Hey, look....it's the Zivkovic logo!! (I hope Bram is getting some residuals off this)
Senegal: Congo blows you guys out of the water....sorry.
Singapore: Cool!!
Slovenia: ehhh....the figure is actually too realistic for this usage...
Slovakia: East block dullness, yet again...
Switzerland: Actually, I kinda like this one...at least it's not the complete flag. VERY classic design.
Sweden: But then again....at least it's at an angle
Taipei: See Senegal...
Thailand: waaaaayy too cool!! Don't need the flag at all, imo.
Tunisia: I see boring isn't limited to Europe...
Turkey: Very interesting....although between the fact that it resembles a cooked ham and the name of the country, I'm getting hungry...
Ukraine: And you guys gave us Golubitsky? *sticks finger down throat*
United States: Don't needs the USA part here....the color and big stars are pretty obvious.
May I have the envelope, please: Best use of country flag: Brasil....Honorable mention to Israel WORST use of country flag: Cripes....take your pick!! Most interesting design: Congo....hands down! Most boring: See worst use of country flag Most graceful: Tie – China/Thailand Most in need of a redesign (not including the purely flag logos) : Croatia/India/Taipei/Senegal NEVER change!: Congo/Switzerland Best overall: Artistically: Congo. Telling you which country it actually IS just from the artwork (not lettering): Israel
