| Curmudgeon Award I'm thinking of starting an annual Curmudgeon Award to the grumpiest, rudest, meanest fencing coach in the world. I am now taking nominations for this award in this thread. Once nominations are closed, a poll will be created to determine the winner. An award will be sent to the winner. Inscription still yet to be determined.
Nominations now open.

| Valdek Czaja would get my nod. At least the russian has become picky about the events he attends. Valdek goes to all the national events. JOs, Cleveland I think, he snatched the black card he was given by the ref and zinged it across the room.
Don't get me wrong, he is a good coach but at the tournament can be very direct and trying on the ref. |

| Waldek would get my choice too.
I blackcarded him once for walking up, turning off the scoring machine, and screaming at me in Polish. Then he grabbed himself and offered me the opportunity to perform a sexual act.
Definitely gets my vote for most obnoxious coach. |

| I thought Mel North won that title for life. Or I must have read it wrong, I thought the coach most likely to lie or cheat.

| If anyone has ever crossed Mel Norths path then they would know he is the biggest jerk in the fencing world. He has burned more bridges than anyone I know. He has been run out of Colorado, California, Canada and now resides in Las Vegas. I pity the fools who have to put up with him. |

| Believe it or not, I've actually fenced one of his students.

| Waldek is my coach, and I have heard all the stories but in 3 years of fencing with him I have never seen anything like the storys described. Maybe he was wilder in his youth, but he was well behaved at the last nationals, and the Chattanooga NAC and at 3 RYC's and an SYC this year.
I do know a bit about oso97's story. Though honestly all my information comes from a GTFC fencer who was there and not from Waldek, and the story was a bit less dramatic when I heard it, but oso97 was definitly justified in giving the black card. I have never heard him speak ill of anyone or gossip about incedents that may have happened.
I think this thread has the real potential to turn into a fencingsuck type flame war, which probably will not be the most informative fencing related conversation. |

| Well, he may not be the rudest overall, but I've seen Mitch Berliner go up to the bout committee at the Charlotte nationals and call them a bunch of "[expletive deleted]".

| I see no good coming from this, but possibly a few red cards in people's future...

| Weird...I didn't bother censoring it because I just kinda figured the auto-censor would take care of it. You can't say ***(three letter word for butt), but you can say that?

| I thought Brad was still the chair? Anyway...yeah, that should be an interesting experience. Mitch has this talent for rubbing everybody the wrong way at will.

| This is not exactly what I had in mind. I was thinking more of a good natured roasting. Obviously, not well thought out. |
