| Unfortunately we are relagated to the god forsaken city of Atlanta for next summer. Get ready for $8 a day parking, downtown traffic with not very many close hotels and hotter than hell weather. Did you like Austin's weather? a few years ago? Here we go again. |

| Austin in the summer is NOTHING like what Atlanta in the summer is like. Take Austin, toss on about 10-15 degrees, and spice it with 20-30 more humidity points, and enough smog to make you choke. Mix well.
And remove the mitigating evening breezes that come in from the west off the Edwards Plateau. Also remove the beautiful downtown lake.
Austin in the summer = hot but bearable.
Atanta in the summer = hell on earth. |

Well Not really, they are both way too hot in the summer.

Atanta in the summer = hell on earth. | Really? I found Austin to be about the same as Atlanta heat-wise. Then again, I am used to the humidity - our summer doesn't really "cook" until late July/early August.
"god-forsaken" city of Atlanta - That's funny. (Don't tell that to anyone who lives in Cobb County or they'll try to get those stickers put back on the science books.)

| Atlanta is not any worse than Chicago on a bad day, Sacramento on a medium day, or Houston on a good day. Does anyone know where the competition venue will be? The terribly inconvenient thing about Atlanta is that downtown is not residential, so like a previous poster mentioned, there are very few hotels amidst the factories and I don't recall a convention center in downtown...I wonder where we will fence... |

| Oh well, at least it should be a bit cheaper for me to get to Atlanta from Maryland than it is to Sacramento. |

If it's there again, then it will be right next to hotels and the MARTA system. Plus, the new Aquarium and park will be open.
Here's a map of the rail system: http://www.itsmarta.com/getthere/sch...index-rail.htm
The "GWCC" is station W1. Easy travel from the airport via rail.
It will all depend on the actual location, but ATL makes for a very easy Fencing.Net meeting setup.

| Austin is dry heat, Atlanta is wet heat. Atlanta's heat wasn't as bad as Louisiana when I went there last year. Also as Craig mentioned the transit system called MARTA is fairly well organized and should make up for the lack of hotels in the area.

| It will be at the GWCC. It is being held at the same time as the Volleyball Championships and the Tae Kwan Do Championships. It's sort of a mini national olympics. This idea might catch on any other sports might glom together to run their nationals at the same time. Get more people going and become more of an economic clout.

| Ahh, lovely. Even more people trying to find hotel rooms, cluttering up the airlines, taking up taxi, shuttle and parking space...
Sheesh, what is wrong with me? I seem like such a crumudgeon sometimes!
It could be a good idea, or could be destined for chaos, we'll have to see. |

| Are there any single rooms big enough for all of us and those events as well as ours and any others they may want? I think I am with oso on this one, get your rooms now don't wait until next week. I have a bad feeling this could be a very large train wreck of an event, not because of us and our people but because of these three events then other?
Wow, welcome to hell! |

| This is actually a great location for an event of our size. The GWCC is a very nice, enormous venue with enough room to hold our event 20 times over. There are also plenty of hotels in the area with at least 5 in easy walking distance to the front door of the venue. For those outside of the immediate area the MARTA (local train system) has a stop at the GWCC.
The city is a transportation hub with Delta running a majority of it's flights out of there, so tickets will be reasonable no matter where you're coming from (for nationals last year it cost me $100 round trip).
On top of all this it's Phatlanta! There is a ton of stuff to do away from the Venue, from tours of the Coke factory and Museum to more adult beverages in the Buckhead area.
If you're worried about the heat, just stay inside, we have AC for a reason . And the venue will probably be freezing anyway. |
