| USFA machine chip upgrade subsidy grant Our club took advantage of the USFA offer of a rebate to help subsidize the cost of upgrading our machines with the new timing chips. The deadline was April 1st (hmm, that maybe a clue!) and so far have not heard anything from USFA or seen a check in the mail.
I put in a call to the USFA but so far no reply.
Just wondering if anyone else applied for the grant and whether they have heard or received anything from USFA? |

| UMass submitted a grant request and hasn't (to the best of my knowledge, having recently asked one of the club officers from this past season) heard back. Unlike you, I don't believe they've pro-actively followed up looking for more information yet.

| Same here. I have not heard from anyone that they received a check.
If anyone has gotten a check please do tell.
I would imagine that USFA will handle this after Nationals
Cheers

| Update:
Got a call back from USFA, a fellow by the name of Chris Cuddy, and he said he is working this week on submitting the list of clubs who are getting subsidy checks to their accounting group. He figured that checks should start going out in about 3 weeks or so. |

| The list of clubs that will be getting the checks was given to the BoD in Sacramento (I don't have it with me, but can check for anyone whether or not they are on it). My understanding was that every club that submitted the form prior to the deadline will be getting the refund. I was asked whether or not divisions that had submitted the form would be -- none were listed in the material distributed, so I'd guess no. I also would not be surprised if there were clubs that had submitted the form without being USFA member clubs that, similarly, will not be receiving a check (and would not be listed on what I have at home). No information on WHEN the checks will be sent out.

| Ooooh, sorry...you all forgot to phrase your requests in the form of a question. We can't give you that one....please, pick another category.
But seriously, if you'd just made good arguments that the monies were vital to elite development, you'd already have the cash by now. |

| As was said before, they are discriminating on the divisions, even though it is the divisions that have to have the new chips for the qualifiers. No divisions got any of the grant money.

That really sucks. I know Our division shelled out a large chunk of change that we really did ot have to upgrade machines.

| I don't know the answer, but I will give a guest. The Divisions and Sections are required to upgrade, so you don't need a incentive. This was an incentive for an EXPERIMENTAL rule change for FIE only that the Divisions and Sections were required to go to.

| Not only did everyone have to upgrade machines but many clubs and divisions now have machines that are no longer useable except for epee.
And it sounds like King Rene will be costing us much more $$$$ this year.
We Have to get him out of there!
Cheers

The USFA is NOT obligated to pay for divisions and sections to upgrade (or maintain, or obtain in the first place) equipment. To help out the member clubs the USFA CHOSE to replace its long-standing grants and development program with the chip subsidy program for this past season. Why should this obligate them to also provide money for the divisions?
