IOC Releases Olympic Program Commission Report

This is a summary of the current sports in the Olympics. It is a preliminary to the "confidence" vote being made to open the door for sports such as golf, karate, rugby, and roller sports.

Not exactly a "we gotta keep fencing" report.

I enjoyed what it said about finances. First most of the money comes from the Olympics and we have 2 major sponsors. France Lame, a defunct company and Allstar, which is one of the only 2 companies that you can get the Sabre T-shirt and are they the one that the organizers for each of the Sabre FIE competitions that have to be paid to send the technicians?

I saw that Tissot was a cash sponsor as well. Who or what are they?

That must have kept them busy!

Some things to do to boost our statistics:

    - Whenever you go visit the World Championships: request a media accreditation.
    - Visit the FIE's website and the IOC's fencing page often.
    - Elect women in the FIE executive comittee.

    Happy fencing

We have a couple of good points going for us. Woman have been included in the sport since very early on, we have been apart of the Olympics since the origin of the Modern Games, and the fact that our venue can be shared with other sports.

Unfortunately, fencing doesn't make a boatload of money for the IOC. Unlike golf, which has a sport-specific venue, the cost of which can be shuffeld off to the host country.

Looking this thing over quickly it appears there are many other sports in the same situation as fencing. If fencing goes so should archery, wrestling, baseball, softball, ........
