Well, hearsay was Keeth Smart won the Div I, but I may be wrong; Westbrook Foundation beat Fencers Club for the team (how's that for keeping it in the family?).

    Aww
I met Ivan Lee last week, he was really nice.
    Was hoping he'd win,heh.
Actually, I was hoping Evan Efstathiou would win, but that's beside the point.
Any idea on how Ivan, and Evan, did?

Keeth beat Ivan in the gold medal bout. Other finalists (in no particular order) included Jason Rogers, Akhi Spencer-El, Herby Renaud, Luther Clement, Adam Crompton, and Mike Momtselidze.

Evan was eliminated by Ahki in the round of 32 (not sure the final placement, somewhere around 20th I believe). Other NE div people (I assume that's what you're looking for Ben) were me placing 33rd and Brian Bower who placed 39th.

I also saw some of the women's epee which was won by Kerry Walton over Case Szarwark. Other finalists that I can remember were Kira Hohensee (8th) and Kamara James (tied-3rd).

Presumably the USFA will post tomorrow.

Peach results: I achieved my goal in the Div I WS, which was to show up, fence well, and not be dead last. I've done a good bit better than that in other years, but this ain't the year.

I'm a nationally rated referee, but I have to chip in my $0.02 here about the refereeing at the Div I Nationals part of the event. I watched the sabre events and was dismayed at the egregiously bad calls (as in biasing for the "better" fencer). One phrase included the "less reputed" fencer smacking the better fencer straight on the mask, then having the blade parried after the hit. The call? Attack, parried, riposte, remise.

Ok, I know I don't always call the attack-counter attack (versus preparation, attack into prep) in sabre all the time. But it's not too difficult for me or anyone to see a smack to the head prior to the parry.

There were some bad calls in foil as well. But they seemed to be the incompetent type, as the bad calls went both ways.

Erin Smart won the Women's foil individual and is now the National Champion. I also watched the men's epee team final four. The Peter Westbrook foundation took 1st place. They were great to watch.

    Edew,
Fess up was this in men's or womens??
I noticed that in the last American Fencing, it seems like some fencers are expected to do very well and I was wondering if there were some who were going to make it so.
This happens in other sports all the time (especially gymnastics) and I really hope it does not happen in Fencing, especially in Women's Saber.
Do you think there could be this crap going on??
I heard that one of the referees did a really good job in pools but biffed when it came to big final matches.
It is so upsetting for everyone but especially the younger fencers to know they won a bout and to have gotten screwed out of it.
    Sigh....

Any bad calls in the youth events were just that: bad calls. I don't think there were any intent in calling one way or another. And those intentionally bad calls were done just by those referees well-known to do such things. If you don't know who they are, I ain't telling. If you know who they are, then there's no reason for me to tell.
