That Guy
Array Electric Kendo? Saw this mentioned in the 'off-season training' thread.
Now, just how the hell can you pull that one off? Wrap the 'edge' of the shinai with conductive material (I mean the bamboo part that equates to where the blade edge would be.)
That would be interesting to see, but considering that you also have to have proper technique and proper spirit to get a point in kendo I wonder what putting a box on it would do...

Array Hi Craig.
One of the shinai staves is covered by a lame"sock", as is the tip. Foil socket is connected to the stave. I will not call it "kendo". But it is similar. Basically a wield and wail and see what happens kind of thing. I have a friend who has studied the Kashima shinryu style of kenjitsu and is willing to give this a try( Of course, he will not let his sensei know about it). It will be cool to see how well ( or not) we do against him. Because we really have no desire to "study" kenjitsu, We will only do this for a little while in the summer and get back to our game in time for the circuits next fall. Array Fascinating!
I've always wanted to try Kendo but I'm too into fencing at the moment to have the time to dedicate to a 2nd martial art.
This sounds like a hoot - it's definitely Star Wars time. -
My father does kendo, and it is very interesting to watch. The rules are more complicated the foil, and the actual bouts are hard to follow. One of the worst things about kendo (according to my dad) is that in the winter, your feet get freezing, as you are not allowed shoes or socks. it looks cool, but the equiptment is as expensive as fencing.
I don't think you could have electric kendo. The sport is very strict and traditional, and making it electric would change the whole mentality of the kendoist.
I talked to a high up australian kendo guy, and he said that they would never go electric.

Yeah, lots in folks in Kendo are worried that it's drifted to far from the reality of the blade already. Alot of students now are concentrating more on cutting practice and kata with the bokken. I look for the Shinkendo folks or some other group interested in pragmatic training to devise some new sparring system(s) and weapons that have less idiosyncracies than shinai or kendo rules.

Array I do fencing and kendo. I have to say, some of my friends would say No. I on the other hand am a little more opinion. There are some of us Ronin out there. -

Array Hey Bigriddle me this- how do you say "lightning" in Nihongo. We feel like calling this game "lightning katana" or something just to get away from the Kendo thing. We'll have to post some pics once we get started....
