| Shoes! (ugh.. again.. i know) Does anyone know of a good shoe, used for fencing that is not leather, all man made stuff basically? Everything i can find for sports shoes is leather.. And i have worn out my current pair of sneakers beacuse of fencing and dancing.. so i figure i would be better off getting a pair for fencing.. one for every day.. and one for dancing.. so that is what i am doing... So if you know of a good shoe for fencing, that is not leather, and yet still is a good sports shoe, please let me know! Thank you! |

| I use a pair of Adidas 'Response'.
I think it's a great shoe. If it's good for you there's not much leather in them.
(I've had mine +2 years though so they may look different now.)

| I'm pretty sure most (if not every) fencing specific shoe is made without leather. |

| It won't let me edit my original message anymore.. but.. it doens't need to be a fencing shoe.. and i am looking to speand less than $100.. I just need somtign not made of animal bits, that is better than the canvas shoes with hard plastic bottoms i am wearing right now.... and the worn out yucky leather ones with the soft smushy bottoms, only good for spinning in circles! |

| Try some of the indoor soccer shoes they are built similar to fencing shoes and vary widly in materials. almost every shoe maker makes them and even a few soccer specific companies make their own as well plus they are easy to find as even wal-mart carries a few types,

| Court shoes are a good choice for traction and stability. Adidas Stabil 5 have synthetic leather uppers. Cost around $85 plus shipping. Adidas Prelus are synthetic too, around $50. New Balance court shoes have real leather. Reebok Court Macabee have leather. Nike Zoom Speed synthetic & around $85, Nike Air Intensify are cheaper but have leather. If you are a girl, check out the Hi-tec Venom XP Low Women's Shoe around $40 and all synthetic.

| The Li-Nings are REALLY nice feeling for the price. Especially since I got them on sale.
Can't say anything about wear, though. But whether or not they wear out quickly, they're about 10 times better than the more or less equivalently priced Blue Gauntlet shoes. |

| One of the people in my club uses track shoes, and she likes them. I believe they are called Puma's and are made by nike.

| When I went to my local sporting goods store, I couldn't find anything court based, except pure tennis shoes. I'll have to look more. |

I paid the equivalent of ~90 USD for them when I bought them. They should be about the same price (here in Sweden) now but possibly cheaper in the US.

| I wear adidas response 2 volleyball shoes for training, and find them to be excellent. You can get them for $40 from Amazon.com--search the sports store for "adidas ClimaCool Response 2."

| (1) Puma (2) Le Coq Sportif I just posted this to the old thread yesterday, so I'll ask the same question here:
(1) Anyone have any info on the Puma model I saw a guy wearing on the train but didn't bother asking him the name of (it was definitely a fencing specific shoe)?;
(2) Le Coq Sportif makes a shoe called "Escrime" -- is this a fencing specific shoe, or merely a cross trainer they have so named? |

| the "Escrime" is more of a street shoe. It's an old design of a fencing shoe, I believe. Seems that it's focus is on the style and not the function.... very fashionable in the whole "retro-movement"..
