| Not too sure about this issue of conductivity. I sweat profusely, enough to saturate the collar on a lame pretty effectively in an evening's fencing, but I've never been aware of off-target hits registering as on-target, even in an Infinity lame with very open sport mesh lining. I've taken hits to the mask that have register on-target because the bib's wet, and I suspect the path of conductance is from mask to me, from me through collar to lame (rather than mask direct to lame, which is also possible), but that's happened in the Infinity lame, in regular lames and in some hellish lames we used to use with an impermeable plastic lining. So unless you can Scotchgard the saturation zone around the neck - which is likely illegal - then I suspect there's very little to be gained in terms of preventing erroneous on-targets.
On the other hand, the areas that tend to die first - for me, at least - are the collar and under the bib, so if you can reduce sweat damage there by Scotchgarding, you may extend the life of the lame.
