If you came in 4th just using parry 4, perhaps next time you should make regular use of parry 1
Ha..
Seriously tho, what weapon do you use? We must walk consciously only part way toward our goal, and then leap in the dark to our success.

Array She uses foil.
Parry four is the most common parry at that level since attack to four is the most common attack.
Sure, parry to four is deadly, when the attack comes to four. All actions should come about as a responce to what your opponent does. ... without remorse for the past, confident in the present, and full of hope for the future, [d'artagnan] went to bed and slept the sleep of the brave.

Array I fence sabre, but at senior div. for team foil, my club didn't have a team. So we took three sabreists, tought ourselves how to hold a foil, then went and got massacred. But, the easist parry was most defiently parry 4. Because many attacks came there you just flick your wrist and boom, parry 4. The only problem was, was that we were at seniors, meaning i lost 5-0 to a former Junior olympic champ and 6 A's. -

Array ouch!
Yeah, I could imagine that me picking up a sabre and teaching myself something and going to a tournament would be disasterous as well.
The main thing to remember is that not every attack is going to come to four. If someone attacks to 8 and you parry 4, your blade will pass over the other weapon. At best, you'll realize in mid parry and drop your wrist. I've never hit a riposte on a parry 4 of that manner. ... without remorse for the past, confident in the present, and full of hope for the future, [d'artagnan] went to bed and slept the sleep of the brave.

I was doing a parry 4 more like a counter 4, covering my 8 area 2. But one bad thing that happened when i do that was i parried my opponent's blade on the floor and they got an off target light... !@#$% Evil Devil fencer %$#@! -

Array Actually you can attack a lefty in quarte (4). If you take the blade correctly you shouldn't have any problems. Having said that (as a lefty myself) it can be high risk as we lefty's expect a lot of that sort of thing (in foil). Also, at higher levels you find that people vary their attacking lines a lot anyway. I do Epee and you find in Epee most attack on your sixte (6) so my most common parries are sixte (or tierce but thats another matter) in Epee.
One of the guy's at our club is a superb flicker. Good judge of distance and timing (really annoying). When pressed by a righty he pulls of some astonishingly good quarte parries. You can actually see people scratch their heads in a kind of 'I know what he did, I know what to do - so why doesn't it work?' kind of way. -

Array 4th place just using parry four and ripostes, and beat attacks?
Bottom line. Your opponents at the All City Tournament suck.
...oh, and by the way. You're welcome. -

Array Was this All City Tournament for Unclassified or novice fencers? Was it open to any level?
If it was for Unclassified or novice event, well maybe then your opponents weren't so sucky. Otherwise, my previous rude comment will stand. -

Yeah, what ever happened there, you said a lefty hit squad was going to come and get me...
They're about a month and a half late, and still haven't shown up yet... Similar Threads -
