| More Publicity On the cover of the May/June 2005 issue of Radiologic Technology the is a painting of 2 Epeeist fencing. It is done by Eric Velhagen of Albuquerque, New Mexico. It just says it is 5th in a series, but nothing else.
We get noticed in some interesting places. For those who don't know Radiologic Technology is about X-ray.

It is published by the ASRT and issues can be purchased at asrt.org if your interested. There is no real article corresponding to the cover though IIRC

Owwww.
I've worked in (radiology) imaging software for years, and I've never heard of any references to fencing before. Maybe they see a lot of tissue damage and broken bones from our ilk? I should ask some of the docs. |

Fenicng isnt really a big deal......but a localized deep bruise in a mammo could give the appearance of soemthing being there that really isnt......but then again that's what they are supposed to take historys for.
I've worked in Nuc Med a Long Long time...and never treated a fencer......

X-ray is used commonly on things as well as people. Radiology (as well as Eddy Current, Mag Particle etc) is used extensively in NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) for pipelines, aircraft etc.
Not all quality control happens at just the manufacturing level. When there is a chance for catastrophic loss of life technicians inspect on the regular basis for metal fatigue to ensure that pipelines and aircraft do not suddenly develop large holes in their metal. |

| Could it just be for the cover art?
Is that possible?
I looked up the artist and didn't find any images out there. |

I believe it said it was part of a series by the artist......don't know if they are all fencing or not.
Can't remember for sure because I don't read that journal too closely, it doesn't really apply to what I do.

Can't remember for sure because I don't read that journal too closely, it doesn't really apply to what I do. | I meant, could the journal publisher have used the print just because he liked the artwork, not that it had anything to do with the radiology field or the magazine at all? |

Yes that's exactly correct............they frequently have "bodies in motion" style pics on the covers.
I'm in Chicago next week.....I'll scan it there and post it when I get a chance.

I thought perhaps ultrasonics or even eddy current... I didn't think of a magnetomiter. That makes more sense... much cheaper piece of equipment and it does the same job. |

| But I think they do use radiological technology in authenticating old paintings, reading palimpsests and so forth. |
