Array Your entertainment dollar. This is mostly concerning purchasing entertainment media. The choices are limited, my poll consulant failed to return the edited poll in time.
If you had an extra $50.00 to purchase something, what would you rather buy? Music cds? Movies? Reading material? "Since when does being a patriot in America mean shutting your mouth?"

Yep, books. As for nonfiction or fiction, that would depend on the mood that I'm in.
Books and (like Pauli) maybe a bottle of wine. -

Array Maybe it's just the Epeeist in me talking, but see I have this thing called a library card... so buying books doesn't make much sense to me unless it's something fairly obscure, or that I'm going to read several times.
I don't play video games, period.
I have a music collection that could be listened to for something like 24hrs a day for 3-weeks without repeating a single track. So I'm good there.
I'd probably buy a few boxes of wine and throw a Sangria party for my friends. Yep, it's that time of year! Take your time. Read carefully. -

Some of us are notoriously bad at returning books on time... and dog-ear the hell out of them... plus, with what I read, either the library won't HAVE it, or it's so good that I'd want to keep it to read over and over and over. World without end.

I hate to say it, but Sangria tastes a whole lot better if you use better wine. Box o'wine should be outlawed. That said, though, I'd drink it if you offered it to me.
Wait, think... kool-aid... sangria offered by supreme head of Epee religion... Maybe I'll stick to the margaritas. -
Books, no question about it. I'm the kind of person who could live in Barnes & Noble. But music definetly takes a close second. Don't label me, I'm not a soup can! -

Array Books are good. Sabres are better. Don't take life so seriously... You'll never live through it. -

Wait, think... kool-aid... sangria offered by supreme head of Epee religion... Maybe I'll stick to the margaritas. Yes, better wine = better Sangria in a nice dinner setting, but for a party I usually add think of a spiced Sangria with brandy. The spices and the brandy make it a very nice drink, but would be a bad addition to a nicer wine*.
And I personally am rather impressed with the drinkability of some of the higher end box wines. If careful, one can avoid the hyper-sweet and the petrol varieties.
(*Plus you can hide more with spices and brandy ) Take your time. Read carefully. -

Array The poll is flawed, as there is no option for "fencing equipment." We're fencers, remember? Of course we all want more fencing stuff!
That said, mmmmm, books. -

There's a restaurant in Orlando that makes the best Sangria I've ever had.. uses brandy it in and offers it with a tableside preparation. They make the sangria on a cart at your table and it is truly delish... I found the recipie and posted it here - and now I'm thinking of taking a sangria break right now!!! Sangria de Cava Ingredients
½ of a 750 ml bottle of Semi-Sec sparkling wine*
7 ounces Sprite
¾ ounce simple syrup (see note below)**
1 ¼ ounce Gran Torres Orange Liqueur
1 ¼ ounce Tres Torres Brandy
2 orange quarters
2 lime quarters
Citrus slices and cherry for garnish
Preparation
Mix all ingredients in a pitcher.
Pour into glasses and garnish with citrus slices and a cherry.
Notes
** Simple Syrup, also known as sugar syrup, can be made into a variety of thicknesses for a variety of uses. The solution of sugar and water is cooked over low heat until clear, then boiled for a minute or so. For thin syrup, use 3 parts water to 1 part sugar; for medium, use 2 parts water to 1 part suger; and for heavy, use equal parts water and sugar. For this recipe, a medium consistency will work fine.
*Only wines produced in the region of Champagne in France according to very strict specifications can be labeled as such. Spanish wines are called "Cava" or sparkling wine.
There are several types of sparkling wines, named according to the amount of sugar in the final product, either dependent upon the type of grapes used, the duration of fermentation or a combination of both. 'Brut' is the least sweet variety.
Semi-secco (or semi-sec) pleases most palates as it has a good mix of sweetness and herbeity. It tends to be fruitier in taste than brut, and is easier to drink.
Then you have the secco, which is the sweetest variety. http://www.columbiarestaurant.com/history.asp -

Array Books. I spend nearly all of my entertainment dollars (and they are very few) on books. Used to mostly read novels, but lately it's mostly non-fiction, leavened with the occasional mystery or Terry Pratchett's latest. There are just so many subjects out there I know nothing about (as evidenced by many of my postings here), so hooray for all the little books out there! Freedom of speech makes it easier to spot the idiots. -

Array None of the above. I'd put it into a good mutual fund, so that one day I'll have a lot more than an "extra" $50....
And therefore? -

Array Books, music and wine. If any is left over (Hah!) epee springs and screws and wires. Everything else is secondary. And yet, to me, what is this quintessence of dust?

books for sure, even though music and movies don't sound bad... A bottle of good wine though wouldn't harm in the midst of this! Mr. Epee is right - it is that time of year Cheers for the recipe Maeve - I'll try to use it asap! "Life is about timing." Carl Lewis And so is fencing... -
