| Phoenix Cup I can't believe Inq hasn't bumped up the old Phoenix Cup thread yet! Coming this weekend is the infamous Phoenix Cup, it looks like it'll be a great event! Most events are pretty strong (at least for this neck of the woods) and open epee looks like an A4 event for sure! Rumor has it this may be one of your few chances to meet the mysterious Inq... not that you'll know when you meet him. http://www.phoenixcup.net/index.html
or http://askfred.net/Events/whoIsComin...rnament_id=847
to see who is preregistered
Any guesses about who will win or place? |
| | | And now for this message... | |

| There is at least one A from Nellya competing, so it seems unlikely. But thanks for the well-wishing! |

| This will be my first time at a larger Fencing event although I'm not competing. I'll be the hairy looking guy running errands for the armorers.

| Oh boy! On the news today they predicted 108 F for Tucson on Saturday. That means Phoenix will be around 112! Won't that be fun!

| Dry heat or not, the event will be covered live on television they said !
The Spring weather seems to have gone a week too early...never mind it seems like it will be a fun tournament! |

| Yes. Just think of the heat outside as clearing your palates for the air-conditioning inside... |

| So, who made it there? This was my first big tournament so I have nothing to compare it to. I enjoyed myself and learned quite a bit hanging out with the armorers. Although I am not technically qualified to inspect masks and equipment I know how to now.

| It was fair sized and pretty well-run. Not as big as the Long Beach Invitational, more of a Linkmeyer or Couturier in size and numbers, for those who know those events. Though they had a bigger cadre of well-known refs and ratings of the events were pretty high, at least for foil and epee. The open sabre turned out to be only a C1; one of the Cs dropped out and one A didn't make the 8.
No worries about the heat, though---the a/c was working overtime. I was cold the whole day, even with warm-ups on over my gear. Except when I was actually fencing, that is.
Overall a nice event, made better by living 5 minutes away. And winning a door prize. |

| What's the story behind the "fencer excluded" in third place for open foil? Someone throw a temper tantrum or something?
Also it's a shame that the open epee had 60 fencers, four more and there might have been a lot more new ratings earned.

| Ok, that's not a huge suprise who the black carded fencer is now that I know. Where are you seeing pool and DE results?
