Reinsulating wire Hello, I was rewiring my epee today with some LP wire. As I spun the barrel on I knicked part of the string insulation on a wire. I ended up with 1/2'' of wire insulation off exposing the bare wire. I'm looking for any suggestions on reinsulating the small part of the wire, because I'd hate to throw it away. Right now I've tried spreading a little duco cement around the uninsulated portion, hoping that this will incase the wire as an insulation, seeing how it isn't conductive (I think). I'll post the result on reinsulating a wire this way in a few hours. Does anyone else have a better suggestion on reinsulating a portion of wire, before I go and glue them both down? The sweet is never sweet without the sour. -

Array Sadly I suggest you throw that wire out, and get a new one.
If you are feeling clever you might try pulling the wire out of the cap, and reinserting the wire, after you've removed the part you accidently stripped.
That part the epee is already prone to abuse, and if your makeshift insulation fails then you will lose points... and if it costs you points in a competition, you've wasted your time and money training/traveling/hotel/coaching/entry fee...

Array Go in your girlfriend's drawer in the bathroom, steal her some of her nail polish, and paint the exposed wire with it (on all sides) a lovely shade of red.
If you don't have a girlfriend, or she doesn't wear nail polish, then I guess the glue is the second best solution. - Epee is the Louis Vuitton bag of fencing: only the best can get it, and the rest of the masses must content themselves with cheap knockoffs (sabre, foil)

Perfect. I have an exgirlfriend who's mother owns a nail salon. Hmmm... I MIGHT just MIGHT be able to get some nail polish from them. Afterall, I already get free acetone for glue removal!
Mr. Epee, I think what I'll do is fence with it exclusively at my club a lot and give it a lot of testing. If it proves to work with no glitches, then I'll take it to competition. The sweet is never sweet without the sour. -

Array I've done the "paint the stipped wire" bit before...good luck.
In future, only pull about 2 inches on wire through the barrel before tightening. That way, if you catch the wire again, you're only stripping a part you're going to cut off anyway. -

BUT
If you are in a competition, and it goes bad, you might want to think twice before explaining to the referee why you think the weapon is grounding out.
Best of luck Take your time. Read carefully. -

Array Try using a bit of epoxy. It works great! Similar Threads -
