fencing on the show "medical incredible" last night

on the show "medical incredible" on the discovery health channel, there was this girl who couldn't sweat. they showed her mainly doing epee in her club and i thought it was really interesting how she perservered even though her condition could be potentially life threatening. she seemed to be doing pretty well at epee too!

I'll leave it to one of the epee-haters to make an anti-epee wisecrack about not working up a sweat fencing epee... Fencing w/o sweat glands would cut down on washing though (wringing out tonight's t-shirt)

I threw shotput with a guy who also couldn't sweat. He was a 100 meter runner.
He had to put water on himself all the time. I believe he plays football in college as well, so it can't be that risky.

i have a family friend who can't sweat.

its rough business, but its something you can deal and live normally with. she hiked to the bottom (and back) of the grand canyon in summertime with us. it was a tough trip down because she didn't know what to expect, but the trip up was better.

life-threatening? yes, technically speaking. but not life-changing.

Interesting that there's a fence who couldn't sweat. Joe Manzano, a fencer in San Francisco (coaches at CCSF, I think, used to work at AFS, I'm sure) also can't sweat. Guess his family didn't have any pore genes for him. Hah, that's rich.

there is a kid at a club i go to that can't sweat. his really young and his dad watches out for him so he doesn't get heat stroke. dosen't seem to slow him down any
