Sabreur looking for fencing in the Boston area

    Hello,

I will be moving to the Boston area in several months and I was wondering if fellow fencers could indicate some good fencing schools/clubs around. I have quite a bit of experience already as a sabreur and would prefer to continue my training with a coach from the ex Soviet Union if possible.

Thanks in advance for your help!

PdF. We tend to have the strongest sabre fencers in the area. come on up and check us out. Best nights to check out sabre are Tu/Thu.

Our coach is American, but most of what she teaches she learned from Ed Korfanty or Yuri Gelman, so it should work with your training. she's also VERY adaptive to the particular skill sets of her students.

pm me with any specific questions.

I would also recommend Prise de Fer. Growing over the past few seasons, pdf pretty much dominates sabre in the area right now.
In addition to being great quality training, it's just a fun place to be.

Well as you may have guessed (as way of our avatars) I'm going to agree with Mike. Prise de Fer is curently producing the most competitve sabre fencers in New England (either male or female). Tuesday and Thursday nights are the strong nights, but Wednesday nights are starting to become sabre nights since our coach, Ariana Klinkov is there on Wednesday nights too. We just moved into the facility and it's near a T-Stop if that's how you need to get there. Hope to see ya there.

.... before the rampant plugging gets totally out of hand it's worth pointing out that (nearly) all the clubs in the Boston area have floor fees. So just pay your $10 and fence for the evening, good way to visit a few clubs and see which are fun and which are not.

I don't think anyone was suggesting a membership..most of the members who rep the club just pay by floor fee. whtouche for one goes on avergae 1-2 days a wekk and still pays floor fees.

I'll bite my tongue instead of gushing over how good PdF is (though it is, and it's only steps from the commuter rail!). If you're around Boston over Memorial Day weekend, check the club's web site for details on the round robin tournament that PdF is hosting. One weapon per day. Saturday is all sabre, slash till you drop.
