On May 4th, 5th and 6th the AHF will host a Weekend of Nicoletto Giganti.
This event will be held in conjunction with the International Order of the
Sword and Pen, and will take place at George Mason University, located in
Northern Virginia, just outside the Beltway, just 25 minutes from Dulles
International Airport.
Classes will be taught by Maestri Martinez and Acosta-Martinez. The weekend
will be one large, intensive workshop on the Italian School of Rapier based
on Nicoletto Giganti's Teatro, 1606. The workshop will focus on rapier and
rapier & dagger, stressing historical fencing technique based on Giganti's
treatise, supplemented with material from Palls armata, 1639.
Topics to be covered include drawing the weapon, concepts of tempo,
effective use of distance, close-quarter combat, and the
tactical/philosophical difference between a duel and a street fight. Brad
Waller, Artistic Director of IOSP, will be teaching a class on
close-quarter rapier technique. On Sunday a Rapier Tournament will be held
with time set aside for free fencing and an open forum after the conclusion
of the tournament.
All details, information and application forms are posted on the AHF Web
site,
http://www.ahfi.org. We thank Brad Waller for all his work in helping
make this event possible.
