    Ahoy hoy!

    Hello all,

I am a 23 year old student at Wayne State University Law School. Normally, nobody knows anything about Wayne State, but I have a feeling some of the people who have been involved with fencing (especially NCAA) have heard of the school. I fenced epee at the University of Detroit for one year in undergrad, and I took a year off when I started law school.

NCAA rules prevent me from joining an NCAA fencing team, but I recently joined a club and started taking lessons. I am fortunate to belong to a club that has a few epee fencers of each rating. I am also starting to fence competitively again, and I recently earned my E in epee.

    Steve

They still have a fantastic epee program. WSU sent four fencers to the NCAA championships in epee. I don't remember all the places, but WSU won women's epee (Garina), and won runner-up in men's epee (Petraszek).

The club I go to is about 15 minutes from Wayne's campus, so many of the fencers at my club are current and former Wayne fencers. We also have a few fencers who fenced for U of D in '72 when they won the NCAA team championship.

I'm fortunate to be live close to a club that has epeeists of every rating. I have Wayne State and U of D to thank for that.

The USFA awards letter ratings at its competitions based on how many fencers are competing, the ratings of those fencers, how well those fencerse place, and how well you place. The rating system can be found at:

    http://www.usfencing.org/Documents/R...sMan/Class.asp

I won a tournament that had 10 people (2 D's, 3 E's, and 5 U's). Referring to the rating chart in the link above, I did well enough to earn an E rating (I was a U). By the way, U's are people who have joined the USFA and have not earned a rating yet.
