The Rambeau is carried in the US by American Fencing Supply.

It looks similar to what Triplette calls a small Russian. I used them for a while on both my foils and épées until I drifted back to Russians in épée (when not using a French) and Zivkovic Zs in foil.

The Rambeau gives good "gripiness" on the hand although some folks may object to the way the thumb prong wraps over the top of the thumb.

The Cetrulo looks kind of like a Spanish offset(which is what Triplette calls it):

    The Gardere looks like this:

The Gardere is illegal because it uses a french pommel AND the arms of a pistol grip.

    Illegal only in "regulated" competition.

It's fine for your "casual at the salle" bout

Your opponent probably won't even know the difference.

The legality of grips is a sticky issue for some grips.

    The gist of it is:

If the grip has "aids" on it and, the grip doesn't fix the hand in one position, it's illegal.

Since the Gardere lets you move your hand about and still use the prongs, it's illegal. However, if it were legal, I'll bet a lot of épéeists would be giving it a try.

The issue with the Spanish offset and the Cetrulo is that some people take issue with the fact that you can hold it with one or two fingers above the prong.

I really don't think that it can be "pommeled" practically, but if one applies a strict interpretation of the rules, it could be construed as illegal.

On the other hand others will swear up and down that it is legal.
