Array "OE" - Overseas Experience In NZ, an OE is considered when someone gaps it after university and goes overseas for a few years, working/having fun on their "OE". It doesn't seem to be as big as it used to be, however, a relative of mine left the country about 6 years ago, and to my knowledge she still hasn't come back! She's been all over the place I hear - looks like it became permanent :O
Did you do one? Do you want to? I'd love to do one after uni, hang out in fencing countries, like a year training in hungary I am he

well I did one but not until I was 28 (funded by my legal avoidance of US tax for two years ) - and I can happily say I found much to do that was more enjoyable than fencing, even EPEE.
So lets see; bumming around the south pacific, a bit of australia & newzealand, up through borneo, malaysia, Thailand (the massage course at Wat Po is a great way to waste a week or two), then a long spell in India. -

Array I've got Korea coming up (which will, sadly, be my first actual time overseas), and who knows where I might go globetrotting around to after graduation. 'specially if I'm just married... -

Array I lived in Malaysia for a year and a half, basically because I found a college there that gave American credits but cost a third of what any college does in the USA -

Array [QUOTE=LUDICROUS]In NZ, an OE is considered when someone gaps it after university and goes overseas for a few years, working/having fun on their "OE". QUOTE]
In America, at least where I'm from, the word "overseas" has a disticntly military connotation to it. I went overseas in that regard, to Korea. It was a horrible place in which I had a lot of fun and wish I could burn many memories from my brain. I have many stories from my experiences there, but I don't generally share them with others because to most people they sound like a bunch of BS. For people that have actually been to Korea and have seen the "deer farms", "rice paddie pyramids", and have seen the neighborhoods that Koreans are afraid to go in after dark, they just tend to quietly nod, thinking back to their own freaky experiences. That is one jacked up place and if you ever get a chance to go there, I highly recommend taking a jaunt up to Russia. *Warning... if you are in the military it is generally forbidden and the bribes you have to pay to get up there can get hairy*. But if you go there, I hope you like the taste of vodka. There is a reason that the russian words for water and vodka are so similar. Вoдa, Boдka. mmm, good memories.
After going there I would like to see what other jacked up places there are around the world, but I'm not sure I want to get many more stab wounds. Everybody has to believe in something. I believe I am going to have another beer. -

Array You've gotta love that language.... never have figured out why Caшka was the diminutive form of Aлekcaндp though. Everybody has to believe in something. I believe I am going to have another beer. -

Probably for the same reason "Polly" is a diminutive form of "Mary": because people are strange everywhere. "What did I tell you about being stupid? You don't get a birthday this year." -
