Blood Type Predicts Personality?

I had never heard this one before and I am curious if a majority of fencers have the same blood type. Here's the article and the poll
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Blood Type Predicts Personality?

Forget the age-old question men and women in North America ask each other in bars: What's your sign? Try this instead: What's your blood type?

For years South Koreans and the Japanese have believed--without any scientific backing, mind you--that a person's personality can be fully discerned by just knowing his or her blood type.

Here are the personality characteristics for each blood type:

Type-A people are farmers. They are shy, introverted perfectionists. They are considerate to others and cannot tell a lie easily. They are loyal to friends and coworkers. They can be secretive, though, and don't often share their feelings. They don't hold their liquor well.

Type-B people are hunters. They have independent spirits with strong personalities. While they don't care what others think of them, they are extremely passionate about the things they hold dear. They can be shallow, lazy, and quite impatient.

Type-AB people are humanists. They are an unpredictable, distant lot, but tend to use their heads over their hearts. They are good with money. They seek accord and so work well as mediators; however, they can be viewed as two-faced.

Type-O people are warriors. They are outgoing, expressive, and passionate. They are highly motivated and natural leaders. Blessed with a strong physical presence, they aren't afraid to gamble because they are so convinced they will win. They are natural athletes. They tend to be obsessive in their quest for success, and this can make them boring to others.

Linking blood types to personalities, which scientists say is a bunch of hooey, has a long history beginning with a series of articles published in 1927 by Japanese scholar Takeji Furukawa called "The Study of Temperament Through Blood Type," reports Reuters. In 1971, Japanese writer Masahiko Nomi expanded on these initial ideas and wrote "Understanding Compatibility from Blood Types." It was a pop culture hit in Japan and South Korea.

This isn't just the stuff of casual conversation. In Japan, blood type is actually a criterion used for hiring, and all the major Japanese car companies have organized their staff to attain positive blood type combinations in different working sectors, reports Khalsa News Network.

But what's really interesting is that South Korea seems to be turning en masse against men with Type-B blood. Here's the rap: Those independent spirits with strong personalities are nothing more than cads who will love you wildly and then break your heart. They are quick to get angry, but they're also quick to make up. They are selfish and mercurial. Your head will spin if you get involved with a Type-B man. (For some reason, the same does not apply to Type-B women.) But you know women and cads. They can't resist them. That means that Type-B men are seen as the irresistible bad boys.

It's so pervasive, there is even a hit song called "Type-B Men" with lyrics that describe all his personality quirks. Some women refuse to date Type-B men. Even magazines, TV shows, and Internet chat rooms in South Korea are abuzz with the perils of getting involved with one of those Type-B cads. In a recent nationwide survey conducted by a South Korean Internet portal site, it was decided overwhelmingly that Type-B men are the most difficult to date. In addition, fully 40 percent of women said they would not marry a Type-B man.

Using sweeping stereotypes to define people based solely on their blood type is probably not wise. "I can definitively say there is no scientific evidence that links a person's blood type to their character," Kim Tae-suk, a doctor in the department of psychiatry at the Catholic University of Korea, told Reuters.

Hello, good-looking! What's your blood type?

Oh boy, this doesn't describe me AT ALL!

For whatever its worth, my immediate family members (all 12) are all Type A, and our personalities are so different it would be impossible to stereotype. My father is very different from my mother, as are the different siblings from eachother, and we all still get along. So it would seem to be superstitious nonsense.

However, we are not of South Korean or Japanese heritage, so perhaps they are somehow different.

has anyone had an experience to confirm these stereotypes?

I am not shy, not an introvert, and DEFINATELY not a perfectionist. I might be considerate to others, but I lie very easily. I guess I am loyal though. I do share my feelings, and I handle my liquor just fine.

So..... no I can't confirm it at all.

Being type-O, I find that I probably have the least in common with that description. Aside from the obsessive/boring comment there at the end. While I might be athletic, it certainly isn't natural... I had to work damn hard to coax my body into being this way. At least half of the other three descriptions could be applied to me though. Me thinks that poll, i mean article is FLAWED.

I'm a Type O, too. For some reason, I feel quite smug about being called a worrior, but I'm not sure it's true

I like being an O also. Actually O negative, the universal donor. Just don't expect me to give it up freely, (unless you are bleeding on the strip) it's worth more than oil (some political opinions may disagree). I wonder if the rh factor has any meaning? Maybe + for optimist - for pessimist.

Woo-hoo! I'm a warrior! Warrior *Queen*, baby. I am so cool. Kind of sounds like my personality, which is rather spooky. Yeah, if you think my eternal quest for success is boring, I will rip your heart out while it's still beating and feed it to my cat.

Sorry, too much caffeine.

But what do what do you get when you're a Type O blood with a Type A personality? I feel so conflicted.

I have no idea what my blood type is.

I'm not a blood donor (according to the nurse I offered my blood to I have very small veins so she adviced me from it) and it's not common practise here in Sweden to tell patients what their blood type is, unless they have some permanent disease, or are blood donors.

I do know my dad is an AB though (he is a blood donor) but I suspect I am a plain 0. It's the most common blood type.

Zilverzmurfen's blood type

Hi Zilverzmurfen,

If your dad is type AB, you are A (if your mom is A), B (if your mom is B) or AB (in this case your mom could be A, B or AB, where each parent contributed one of the two different genes (A or B). You can not be O type, as your father is AB blood type.

Premit Noctem (who is a pathologist by day, blood type O)
