Array Anyone from around Vancouver Canada? Hey, I'm another one with an epee in my hand who just joined.
I was wondering if there's any western Canucks around here? -

Array There are plenty. More from out west than from Ontario/Quebec, if you can believe it. Or, at least, they post more often.
But I am not one of them. -

I was actually born in Saskatchewan and moved to Manitoba when I was 5. Pound for pound, the amoeba is the most vicious animal on earth. -

Array If by western Canada you mean eastern US, then yeah, otherwise I'm afraid not. Welcome anyway. Everybody has to believe in something. I believe I am going to have another beer. -
Calgary.
What club are you at in Van City?
Dynamo I hope. -

Dynamo I hope. I fence at Vanguard mostly, but I've been meaning to drop into Dynamo as well, as I like a lot of the fencers there... unfortunately I haven't heard good things about the coach and that some of the guys don't want to fence the women.... but you can't believe everything you hear so, I was going to check it out for myself.
I've also been thinking of going to a few tournments in Alberta and build up my points (my husband's family are in the Red Deer area). Any suggestions? I fence Epee, women or mixed. Jerzy is quite a character. Nice guy and a good coach also.
I assume Magda is still training there and Laurie when/if he's in the country.
So far as Dynamo goes I haven't heard any of those things myself.
So far as Alberta goes any of our women's Epee tournaments are of decent strength with anywhere from 1-3 current/former national team members competing. Stick to the competitions in Calgary and Edmonton though for travel ease.
If you're ever in Calgary feel free to drop by Epic. Our coach is the Women's Epee National Team coach and he's also a friend of Jerzy's. They're quite a pair when they're together. -

Array Yes, Magna still fences there.... she knocked me out of the Provincial's a few weekends ago (of course). She's a fierce competitor and a great person. I like to think that my losses to her contributed enough to her points that it secured her first place in our province in Women’s Epee.
Okay, okay that doesn’t explain how she won it last year, or that she also took 2nd in foil this year even though I have never seen her even use a foil…..or the gazillion points she has nationally….
Seriously, I really like her (and Monica and Carol). Jerzy seems like quite a character. Laurie is around a lot lately as he’s been helping with the coaching … getting the club ready for Nationals. It’s a great club.
I was planning on going to either Calgary or Edmonton tournaments as none of the other towns/cities offer competitions that are sanctioned by CFF. If I’m going to travel to a tournament, I want points towards my standing with the CFF. Otherwise, I’ll just pop over to Seattle, as they have competitions every weekend and are only 2 –3 hours away instead of 10-13).
There are only 2 sanctioned events in Vancouver a year; Alberta has 3 –4, since my in-laws are in Central Alberta it doesn’t matter if I go to Calgary or Edmonton, it’s just a matter of timing our visit with a tournament.
Thanks for the info, I’ll definitely drop by Epic next time I’m in your neck of the woods. Beer, it's whats for dinner! ~ a young snowboarding Canadian The meek don't want it! ~ sticker on a rock band's guitar Similar Threads -
