Brosnan 'will stay on as 007'
By Metro
27 April 2005
Pierce Brosnan will play James Bond in the next 007 film, co-star Dame Judi Dench has revealed.
The 51-year-old will reprise his role as the suave secret agent in Casino Royale, she said.
'Despite the fact that everyone on the face of the Earth has been tested as his possible replacement, Pierce will be doing it again,' added Dench, who plays M in the movies.
'It will be announced come the summer.'

| I read that Gerard Butler was being considered the serious contender for the next Bond movie. I think Pierce Bronson has several more Bonds left in him and I've rooted for him since his Remington Steele days, but if they are going to give him the boot, then Gerard Butler is a great (read:hawt) replacement. |

| Mmmm... Gerard Butler... and he can even act... Yes, I like that very much. Though I do still like Brosnan, perhaps it's time to pass the torch. I'd take James Purefoy in a heartbeat, too.
Speaking of which (outside the thread, but I am DYING to know), has anyone heard anything about a movie - already released in Europe but strangely MIA in the US - called "George and the Dragon"? Where do I find this movie???

| As far as I can tell from poking around various movie sites (including that of the movie itself), they never found a US distributor. No information about VHS/DVD versions either.
Then again, what I saw listed on IMDB had it listed as Germany/UK and in English, whereas the following movie poster seems to imply that it was translated into at least one additional language (poster from the movie's website).

| Seems the movie was made a few years ago, but they can't get a distributor to carry it. It was mediocre, but reviewed as "fun" in Europe back in 2002, and the latest discussion about a U.S. release was back in early 2004. I guess there is a lot more to making and showing a movie than those of us that just show up at theaters know about! Here's the link to the movie site: http://www.georgeandthedragonmovie.com/
And on Amazon there is a link for a Europe/UK version of the movie. It looks like it's not available anymore, and there don't seem to be any US versions ever released. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...v=glance&s=dvd |

| I've hit that main movie web site countless times in the past year or so. Maybe now that Purefoy will be in the new HBO series "Rome" this fall, it will get another shot at life. (I'll bet it was the casting of Evil Patrick Swayze that killed it. Nothing good can come out of that union.) Thanks. Now, unless one of our European brethren can come up with a straight-to-video link for me, I will shut up and release you all to discuss Bond again. Thanks for allowing me the momentary hijack. *sighs over James Purefoy*

| Oh, I'd BOND with him anytime. But have it your way - one more with Pierce for the memories.

| How about an American James Bond? The first James Bond in a movie was an American spy, long before Sean Connery. It was a TV movie in the 50's called Casino Royale (not that Casino Royale) and his friend Felix Leiter was a British Spy.

| I'd be interested in seeing whether they stay true to the book. IIRC, it's a not-so-glamorous rendering of an assassin's assignment in the cold war. Bond's not so suave, more a cold-blooded killer -- only the setting is posh. Nasty torture scene that may explain his later.... well, no spoilers from me.

Sorry, but Connery will always be my Bond - even if he's old enough to be my grandfather. And the guy still has it. (As my mother stills says, "he could put his boots under my bed any day".) Moore? No - forgettable. Brosnan? I could see it.
Bond MUST be British. Englishmen seem so reserved and distant at first glance, but nobody smoulders - or does the suave thing - quite like them. Yeah.

| If in the movie, he's not British, then he can be some other kind of super hero secret agent. Bond is British. |

| Yes, and as great as this news is- (and surprising, especially for someone who has followed this saga as obsessively as me) I doubt it will be Tarantino directing it as he said so. On the other hand, it very well might be, because I don't see MGM making Casino Royale, especially with Pierce, unless they were pushed by someone like Quentin. And please note, I predicted all this would happen months before QT spoke a word about Bond. (At least, publicly) |

BTW Scotland is part of Britain. |
