Array Fencing in Italy while abroad My roomate and I are considering studying abroad in italy sometime in the half-distant future (couple years from now).
The program would be based in Siena, which according to the http://www.umass.edu/freital/italian/s_prog.html
website "Siena lies within easy reach by train or coach of Florence , Pisa , and Rome"
Does anyone know of any strong fencing clubs in Siena, or at least close by?
Purely hypothetical at this point, I may not even end up going but it's something interesting to find out about at least.
Thanks.

Array I spent last summer in Siena on a program with my school...if you have the opportunity to study there, go. It's amazing, charming, gorgeous...I'm pretty sure that the Universita di Siena has a club, but I don't know of any other clubs in the area. Rome is pretty far away-- think several hours by bus. I believe Pisa is also at least a couple of hours away. Florence, on the other hand, is around an hour's bus ride away.
Oh...also, the Italian Allstar dealer is based in Siena, on the outskirts of the city, in a more commercial area. You can't really walk to it. But it's there.
Even if you decide to go & can't find a club, you'll be doing so much walking every day that you'd at least stay in decent physical shape (relatively speaking). You can also go running around the city and at the Fortezza. Sorry I couldn't be of more, fencing-specific help. But do go if you have the chance...it's a fantastic place. -
Pisa is the strongest foil club in Italy. Home of Vanni and I think Sanzo as well. -

Array Some of the better female épéeists also train in that region.
For more info about fencing in the Toscana region you could try e-mailing the address given here. (Taken from the Italian Fencing Federation website.)
Sorry if I'm not really helpful. My knowledge in italian is very limited, but there may be links to Fencing clubs in the region there somewhere!
Best of luck and have fun! -

Array If it helps, there's a good club in Florence called the Accademia Schermistica Fiorentina.
