How do you get to tournies out of state? How do some of you guys get to tournies that are far away? Do you travel with club, teammate, coach or with just lil ol' you?

Array Grady;
The only time I've gone out of state was to Vegas. One time, I drove ('99 Sr. PCCs) and this year I flew (Duel in the Desert).
A better question might apply to long trips, even in state. Let's face it, you and I are in Southern California. Would you rather drive to Sacramento for Summer Nats (Like I did for Sr. PCCs last year), or fly? Both have their plusses + minuses. I haven't done enough long trips to tell the diferance yet.
Pardon me. I'm about to post about your distracting behavior last night.

Most tournaments I go to are out of state. We usually car pool with everyone form teh club who is going. We are lucky in that our club reimburses for gas and they also cover half the entry fees. The farthest we have gone for a day trip so far is 3 hrsto Boston. -

Array I don't drive so getting to tournies can be an absolute pain. Fortunately I have 2 fencing buddies who drive so I can usually get a lift from them.
Also as I come from Scotland getting any tournament I go to feels like "it's out of state". I generally have get to somewhere in England (or Wales) and that means a long drive. -

Array Gav, define "long drive". Tried to convince my wife that 10 hours to Kansas City from Houston wasn't that long. Wasn't convincing enough, though. With only one major tournament a year in Houston, we typically go to San Antonio (4 hours), Austin (3 hours), Dallas (4.5 hours) or New Orleans (5 hours). -

Array Mergs, for me long drive is anything over 6 hours. Its a 12 hours to Sydney for nationals generally, and 2-3 days to Melbourne,,, I dont want to even THINK about Adelaide! Theses are evil....VERY evil, someone rescue me pls! -

Array Errr...
I'd define "long drive" as anything 4 hours+. I don't do the driving anyway (I just sleep so the length doesn't usually bother me). I know that most of guys would probably think "HAH only 4 hours! What a soft Limey!" It's all perspective. I also work 10hr shifts so I don't have much free time to waste bumming around motorways. -

Array I have driven from Philadelphia to Orlando for the 89 Nationals. And from Philly to Chicago for the 88 Nationals. Both are quite long, with Orlando (FL) being quite a bit longer.
I have driven from San Francisco area to Portland for an NAC. And some fencers in California regularly drive from SF to LA or vice-versa, which is a 5+ hour trip of 400+ miles. Similar Threads -
