Why are inanimate objects forever smarter then me?

All right, I have a TI-83 Calculator. None of the buttons work, it's still active, I can't turn it off. If I take the batteries out, it just goes back to the same screen and problem. None of the buttons are stuck.... I have no idea what to do.
    Help!!!

    Thanks.

Does it have one of those little rubber reset buttons you can push with a pencil point? If so try that.

There's a button battery that's secured inside with some screws. If you remove that, it should reset completely.

    What's the actual problem?

Have you dropkicked it yet? Percussive maintenance can be quite effective.

I once wrote a computer program that would periodically stop for no reason.

But if I hit the table, it would start again.

I eventually concluded that it was a hardware problem.

Heh, I had an old oscilloscope that wouldn't give accurate readings unless someone touched the side of the case...

How do you know the reading wasn't accurate until somebody touched the side?

I had a little signal generator that put out a known signal, I'd calibrate the scope each time I used it. Still, I didn't put an awful lot of faith in it...

    RTFM.

If that fails, call tech support and lie about your date of purchase.

I'm totally with you, RL. You know what else really bothers me? People who randomly spurt verbal diarrhea in the hopes that someone might actually pay attention to them… Dang pity, it is.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies.

And I did manage to fix it.
It's amazing how many things can be fixed with three rolls of pink electric tape, a vial of holy water and the back tire of a 1964 pinto.

But did it teach when to use "than" and not "then"?
