Array Foil selection Hello,
This is my first post ever. I just started fencing and have fallen in love!
I've been going to every competition I can and just one a gold medal (it was only a local tournament, but waaaaaay fun!)
Now that I seem to be getting better (judging from the amount of time I am now in the DEs), I would like to buy a better blade. I have been looking at the other posting and I think I'm more confused than I was.
A local dealer sells "FIE BF White Maraging w/ Uhlman tip & wire $158.00CAN."
Is the BF just the Uhlman stamp?
Is this a good blade?
Is the price good?
I like the blade to be a little firm with a little flex at the end, would this do it?
What is the diff between the black, blue, rainbow and white?
I have the last tournament of the season coming up this sunday and my cheap blades are breaking or broken.
If someone has any clues please help me get one.
Thanks, and cool site! -
this post will answer most of your questions.
BF are the initials of the forge. uhlmannn can and may stamp the blades with their own stamp in addition to the BF stamp. it is a very good blade and that price isn't that bad; its about the same as you'd expect from US shops. you can find a better deal from overseas, naturally. thats for an epee. if you're looking for a foil, the price is kind of steep.
i'd describe bf whites as "firm with a little flex at the end", so go for it. but i could also find bf blues that fit the same description.
black blades, i'm assuming, are vnitis. they're more flexible and last a while.
rainbow blades are StM blades, and aren't bad, but aren't BF quality.
neither however, are not "firm with a little flex at the end"

Array Thanks noodle.
I was hoping that would do the trick. I hate waiting for mail and the vendor will be at the next tournament. Winning isn't everything, it just lets you fence longer.
