    Contact info for Kaz Campe

Kazimieras Campe sent me money for the WSI/MEI and MET DVDs. I don't recall if I mentioned that I will be printing a MET DVD, since it's pitifully short (both the bronze and gold medal matches include the first two encounters followed by a cut to the last or second last encounter: all the middle sections were bumped from telecast). I'll await a reply from Kaz (and possibly others who are interested in the 2004 Olympics MET) whether he wants that or just get that portion of the money back or get something else instead.

I am planning on taking the MEI from Peter G's submission (on VHS, duped from PAL -> NTSC and then to DVD), which includes the very good semi-finals of Boisse v Fischer and Kolobkov v Wang (a great bout, a joy to watch). I am also planning on adding the Challenge Bernadotte, a World Cup or Grand Prix or something held in Sweden. The bouts in the tape are of Delhomme v Fischer and Kolobkov v (I forget). While the staging is nice, from what I've seen so far (about 2 minutes of the first period 0-0 so far), it's as dull as watching ice melt in winter.

Peter G's submission is not very complete. Sabreur's DVD is far more complete. However, for the sake of quantity, mixed with a bit of quality, I'll put all the ME's (Ind and team, if there's any) together on one disk. I can't
rip the MET portion from the DVD given by Sabreur, since I don't have the technological tools to do so. If people want it, I can make a DVD of it. I'm just saying that I wouldn't pay $13 for perhaps 12 touches worth of fencing, spanning all of 30 or so minutes of running time.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand, if Kaz is reading this, please email me concerning your choice of what you want. You might also want to just hold up and get the tape-to-DVD version as it has more epee than the DVD version, which only has the two medal bouts.

I might, instead, convert that particular tape of Peter's into a DVD in its own right (after editing out all the extraneous panning and fluff). Then, it will have 4 bouts of WSI and 4 bouts of MEI. That might be two hours of good stuff.

I'm thinking that even die-hard epeeists in the US might want to see a US fencer get the gold, even if it's WS. And for those who want WS, you get that (more than what I can give you from the DVD version, since that version doesn't include the semi-final bouts) and some pretty good epee fencing, so you can at least say, "yeah, I've seen epee fencing. It's not that boring..."

It's just that I'm not too keen on making separate disks. Each one costs $50 to master and more complicated for me to keep track of. (Laziness is the mother of excuses.)

Edew, do you have the tapes on a web-site yet?

    If what is the site?

I talked to Kaz last night and let him know that you were looking for him.

    The Challenge Bernadotte

So I watched a bit more of the Challenge Bernadotte. Yes, it goes 0-0 to about 40 second left of the first period. I think it was 1-1 at the end of the first period. It then picks up with several good touches by both Delhomme and Fischer. Then it gets pretty good for the third period. Delhomme leads 10-7 with about 1:40 remaining. Fischer hunts him down and ties it with about 6 seconds remaining (at 10-10). They go to extra time and Fischer wins. Delhomme punts his mask. Surprised he wasn't black-carded.

The other semi-final bout is Kolobkov vs Jerome Jeannet. Jeannet, like his brother Fabrice, has arms that don't stop. Sorta like a muscular version of Ivan Lee: big, strong, with amazingly long arms.

Didn't watch too much of the Kolobkov/J.Jeannet bout, as I was busy doing some other things. Will watch some more.

I actually like watching epee. It gets pretty intense near the end. There's a plot line to epee as opposed to saber, where it starts furious and stays at that level. Foil goes up and down, which is also nice to watch. Women's foil, however, needs some pep to make it more entertaining. I think beige-colored uniforms made of tightly stretched lycra/nylon/whatever impenetrable would be good eye-candy.
