| Should the Army Have Kept the RAH-66? Last year(ish), the Army cancelled the development and production of the RAH-66 Comanche, my other favorite aircraft. It seems they decided they didn't need an improved attack helicopter, now that we're not worried about piles of Russkie metal rolling through Europe. I'm inclined to agree, as the Air Force continues to improve our strategic bombing and close air support capabilities. I think the best thing for the Army to be looking into would be some kind of stealthy troop transport, looking at the problems they've been having with Blackhawks out in the desert.
Of course, a lot of the same principles discussed with the F-22 (research and development benefits, staying ahead of the power curve, expecting the unexpected, et cetera) might be applicable here.
This topic I'm not so sure about, though I think I'm leaning in favor of their decision (easy to do, naturally, since it's already been done). Anybody else want to strap on their Hindsight Goggles and chime in? |
