Instead of kaboshing the whole system, can you make it so we can choose the number of rep points (out of our maximum) that we can dispense per post? Another option would then be to limit the total number of rep points you can dispense for the day.
I understand there are limitations to the software that may not permit this. These are merely suggestions. | Snipped from a WC discussion. I really like this idea. If I give rep, I boost someone by 20 points (1 inital point, member since Apr 2000 +10, 2500+ posts +5, 400+ rep +4). That's huge. There are things that deserve recognition that don't necessary deserve massive bumps like that.
Or, I suppose, we can just go on living with a rep system that we all agree is mostly meaningless.... which is unlikely to get us to stop talking about it. :)

| Frankly, my problem with the rep system is that I keep wanting to give it to the same handful of people over and over again.

had been trained over a lofty branch. "Just the thing to quench

and again he tried after the tempting morsel, but at last had to
give it up, and walked away with his nose in the air, saying: "I

| Yep, the beloved 'fox and grapes.' And I think it's a great idea about being able to adjust rep points up to our maximum.

| but it would be much easier for Craig to just delete rep all together since it appears to be such a trigger for angst in the community. |
