Hello everyone! I have been fencing for four months now (plus a semester in college--I won't mention how long ago! ) and am completely addicted to it. I enjoy reading your comments and questions about this great sport and look forward to future postings.

Any advice for a new saber fencer?

Foot work, footwork, footwork. Practice every day. You can do footwork alone so you should take advantage of that fact. You don't have to wait until class. I normally try to do 100 of something every day if I can't do a proper work out. Footwork is crucial in sabre. Other than that, you should make sure you can change lines quickly. A good feint attack is a great asset for a beginning sabreur, or sabreuse as the case may be.

Keep a good guard position and risposte, risposte, risposte after each parry.
