I am proud to announce that Maestro Gaugler, along with Maestro
Perno, have been nominated by Dr. Toran as honorary members of the
Accademia Nazionale di Scherma. The Directive Council and Assembly
of the Accademia have approved these nominations. This is a
significant honor, and a further tie for us with the highest level of
the Italian school. The statutes of the Accademia were recently
modified to include masters. Maestro Gaugler and Maestro Perno are
the first two given this honor.

The Accademia is an organization originally authorized by royal
decree to test and give national diplomas to fencing masters. It has
governed this licensing procedure for more than a century. AIMS is
the professional national organization of fencing masters, of which
Maestro Toran is the president. AIMS can only give examinations in
cooperation with the Accademia.

Our deepest congratulations to Maestro Gaugler who has earned this
honor through his many publications and establishment of the SJSU
Fencing Masters Program.
