| askFRED.net update Hi everyone-
The askFRED.net tournament organization site has just received an upgrade that includes a facelift for FRED (not a radical change, but much needed anyway! ), adds several new features and improvements, and fixes a few bugs.
Some feature change highlights: - Regional Editions: Choose from the dropdown in the upper left, and FRED will show only information for your section (unless you specifically search for others). He'll also remember your choice the next time you visit. A much-requested feature!
- More & better searches: most list pages provide more robust search criteria
- For the data-heads and the stats hungry out there: .csv downloads of results (and for organizers: fencers & clubs) found from searches.
- Preregistration list has links to each event at the top, like results.
- Events in a tournament listed in a more sensible order.
Plus numerous bug fixes, including: - De tables sometimes flipped branches, listing wrong fencer on wrong branch of the tree (fixed).
- Results from Fencing Time now processed in the background, to fix a timeout problem experienced when users upload results from a truly large tournament.
- Additional age category added to adapt to USFA age eligibility rules for Senior events that qualify fencers to Div1A/2/3 events at Summer Nationals.
As always, if anyone finds any new bugs since the update, please let me know at peet@askfred.net!
Thanks for using FRED! |

| Peet, thanks for the updates (and the update on the updates). It's been a valuable system.
One more idea for you to mess with: Links from current tourneys to results of previous tourneys of the same name? Sort of a historical overview of any particular event.
And a very minor suggestion: Post a polite reminder somewhere in the registration process, "Please be responsible and only register for those events you intend to attend. If, for some reason, you can't show up, remove your name from the list." ... Sadly, such a jouvenile admonishment might be helpful. |

| Wow, it looks real nice, but...
The navigation on the left and across the top don't display correctly in FireFox.

Rolls. | Darn. You mean Firefox for windows, i guess? I tested about a half-dozen browsers, but maybe not that one. I'll check it out.
Thanks for the heads-up.....

Craig | The SOAP services are unchanged. We talked about me helping get a mambo component put together to SOAP results from FRED to F.net a while back. I admit, i let that slide a bit, but i'll email you about getting started back up with it.

| Hmmm... It's showing up here fine (FireFox Windows XP), but at work it didn't (windows 2000).
I'll try it again tomorrow and let you know with version details, if the problem persists.

| Font color I run a search for tournaments in the SW section and results show only the venue locations. The font color used for the tournament name blends into the banner. Hmmm...all sections, actually. Can you use a lighter font?

1) empty your cache and reload the page and see if that helps.
2) try a different browser, and see if anything changes.
3) PM or email me your browser, OS, versions & such, plus a screenshot if possible, and I can investigate.
Thanks!
