Array I want to be remembered when I'm dead. I want books written about me. I want songs sung about me. And then, hundreds of years from now, I want episodes of my life to be played out weekly at half past nine by some great heroic actor of the age.

Array Well, if only 2 out of 8 people have even heard of it perhaps it is not ready for the big screen... -

If anything, all it means is that no one on THIS board who's familiar with "Watchmen" has stumbled into this thread with an opinion to share.
Anyway ...
Comic book series. 1980s. A classic period piece and redefinition of the medium. Author, Alan Moore. -

Array Ahh, I was thinking of The Lensmen by Doc Smith.
So, I have no clue what the Watchmen is about.
I .... liked Sin City. It had some nasty uncomfortable aspects to it, but the good guys won, and there were enough "funny" things in the stories to provide much appreciated comic relief to the tension in the segments. It was very comic bookish, some of the acting would be considered horrid if it were not supposed to BE a comic book (ie. I loved the whole Clive Owen bit).
I liked the style of the movie very much. Bruce Willis must be a reincarnation of Bogart...He is too good at this type of movie.

Array That would be the comic book movie project of which I speak, yeah.
Nevermind. It was a hit-and-miss topic; if no one's got an opinion here, it's not a thread I'm going to struggle to develop. -

Array I would love to see Watchmen as a movie. In fact I would love to see most comics made into movies. The problem is could it be done well.
Over the last few years there have been some movies that have really raised the bar (spiderman, x-men, sin city) but there have been some that have really just sucked (punisher, elektra, league of extraordinary gentlemen)
They do have David Hayter writing the movie and that shows a lot of promise since he has helped to write some good comic book movies of late.
Side note: Filming has begun on both a Ghostrider movie and the new Superman movie Fleche!! Fleche for fantasy.

Array Thanks, El.
I love my comic book movies as much as the next nerd, but I don't have a good feeling about Watchmen making the transition. The full series is just too rich, too dense, to make it work (even as a multi-film series). -

Array Who Watches The Watchmen? It should not be made.
I can't think of a single Alan Moore comic that's made a good movie, with the possible exception of From Hell. Alan Moore has completely removed himself from any of the movie productions...
Yet still, this movie is being made.
Frank Miller, the creator of Sin City, did the same until offered complete control over Sin City's production. That movie, to me, proves that a literal translation isn't always a good thing.
I, for one, would rather see a good movie rather than a bad comic book movie. And it would be very, very difficult to make a good movie out of The Watchmen. We're no threat, people, we're not dirty, we're not mean

Array I agree with Achilleus.
This is why I don't think I could ever support a "Dark Knight Returns" movie even though I have had several arguments with my friends as to who should play Batman. Fleche!! Fleche for fantasy.
