    Sabre Elbow Protecter

    Are these required for competition?

I know some suppliers do not even carry them anymore.

As I have said I have started fencing sabre and I'm trying to get together everything I'll need for competition next season.

I don't think it is required, but you might want to wear one just in case. If you've ever had your elbow chopped off without an elbow guard, you know how painful it can be. It also seems to happen to that corner of your elbow that is first to land when you rest your elbow on a table, or on the shift console in your car.

The elbow protector is not required at competitions.

I have one club-mate who used to hit me there all the time and I started wearing one because of him. "Don't get hit there" is a nice thought but little tough in a right-of-way weapon--I often get the touch but also get a bruise in the process.
