Anyone Going to the Western Canadian Tourney?

I'm not sure if this goes here or in the Water Cooler, but is anyone here going to the Western Canadian (or Canadian Western, can't remember) tournament coming up in Regina?

Cheers!

I am still not sure.... I might be there for mens epee... Had a bit ofa selfish incentive to go last year as a returning Junior Mens Epee Champion who wouldn't even have to defend his title (2003 was my last junior year) But this year.. Well that wasn't really the reason lol just wanted to brag I s'ppose This time around though - definitely don't wanna drive from Vancouver again - did it twice in last 3 years - NOT FUN. And the plane tix aren't too cheap compared to the likely quality of turnout. Most top Western Canadian epeeists (including the Salle Seguin Fencers for whom teh tourney is 2 hours of driving away) usually pass on the Westerns. The only really strong epeeist last year was Farooq Habib and he lost in an early round..... I knwo for a fact that the national team members Bajgorices are not coming, I also doubt that Darragh O'Malley will be there, unless he's now back training in Calgary after a year or so in Montreal.
So I doubt the turnout will equal the actual power of Western Canadian fencing - at least in mens epee...
At the same time - it's pretty exciting that teh nationals are finally in teh West this year - virtually my entire club is coming, from U-15 sabreurs to veteran epeeists... That shoudl be fun. (and thank God for West Edmonton Mall!)

I'm still undecided to be honest.

Regina is a (boring) 7-8 hour drive away.

And plane tickets aren't exactly cheap.

Yeah, it's about a 6.5 hour drive for me, too... I'm trying to convince other people from my club to go in a van or something, we'll see what happens...

6.5 hours - that's not that far. Three years ago, a large group of us from my club here in Ottawa drove to St. John, New Brunswick for Nationals. That trip took about 12 hours by car.
