Array Lost a rating Ever lost a rating due to the four year rule?
If so, what happened? Was it because of college? Was it because you didn't deserve your rating in the first place? Injury? Old Age? Don't let 'em drop it. Don'tlet'emdropit. Stop it... bebop it.

Array I had an old D99 from when I earned my B in epee. Since I do not fence sabre in competitions, it degraded from neglect. -

Array My Rating went down because life got in the way of training and going to tournaments. the Birth of my daughter, changes in employment, and other taxes on my time made me essentially quit fencing since 2000, now I'm competing again as an E05 renewed that in a hurry, but haven't been able to get to the bigger tournaments to find that D or C. -

Array Oh yeah... due to "Real Life". It takes a long time to wind down from a B, but if you don't (or rarely) compete, it eventually evaporates... "In theory, theory and practice are the same, but in practice, theory and practice are different." -
My rating is missing because I suspect it was either never sent in, or possibly simply not entered. I would bother correcting it, but I realized it earlier this year and it's only an E I earned in 02. Not a huge deal, and I hope that one day I will place again. -
Unconfirmed
Array Yeah. Switched weapon focus.
Had a D in foil. Moved to epee and won my C right away. Never bothered to move forward with foil again. -

Array Well, I lost an E I once had in epee...because I don't fence epee. ( Got it in a tournament where I agreed to fence to add to the numbers for ratings purposes. )
In sabre, while it has been a long, slow climb the ratings changes have all been up so far. -

Array i have an E04 in foil that i don't intend to renew since i'm a competitive EPEEIST only these days. -

Array Looking forward to losing my A'01. It was a one-time and I trained like crazy to earn it--not easy in WS then, especially because I was 49, but I devoted my efforts that year to doing well in the Division IA because I figured if I had a B and couldn't do Div II or III anyway, I might as well shoot for an A. I know it's quixotic, but I also figured it was my last shot as I wasn't getting any faster or stronger.
So I'd say Old Age. I'm not saying I'll never re-earn it, just that the chances are small. "Arm yourself, Watson, there is an evil hand afoot ahead." -- Dennis Pierce, 2010 Bulwer-Lytton contest, detective fiction category runner-up. -

Array Had an "A" in foil from 1974 through 1993. Stopped fencing seriously for a while and have not been able to overcome the age/skill gap at open tournaments. Do well in Veteran's events. Won World's in 2003, doesn't count. Won National's in 2003 where one of the "A" fencers got their "A" in an earlier event at the tournament. USFA says sorry, doesn't count.
I kind of feel, I'm running out of time, but I think an "A" fencer should be an "A" every time they get on the strip. I would not want to get one through pity, a mistake, or luck. I think the lowering of ratings over time is important to maintain the value. If I do get an "A" back again, I hope it is deserved.

I'd have to say that my "C" went the way of the dodo due to neglect. *grins* You know those ratings...require lots of care and feeding. Practice, exercise, competition....all that healthy, nutritious stuff. In addition, law school will do terrible things to your fencing game.
Now I'm back and hoping to try and put the time and effort into fencing (Hmmm, for some reason an actual job is less demanding...imagine that). For some reason though it seemed much easier then... It is all fun and games until someone loses an eye! -

Array Went to a D from (I think) a B97 or something. Quit for eight years. -

There will be enough A's there, and maybe I'll even let you win the gold medal bout! :-) -

I'm still an E01 in foil, but lost my E99 in sabre. What ticks me off a bit is the sabre tourney in Palm Desert last weekend...it was a C1 event, so all I would've had to do was win my first DE and I'd've re-earned it! But as I was vendoring... -

Heh....it's almost like throwing out a single quote from Holy Grail and watching the board members recreate the entire scene line for line!!

Array So like I said, "No man may serve two masters". At least until the Census officially begins counting fictional characters. -
