OK, just because I'm a little bored...

...and don't have anything more important to do at the moment...

A simple question and a simple poll: How many of you thought that AndrastVitesse was a guy?

    Flawed poll, no undecided

I'm undecided. But I suppose I lean more towards "I thought she was a guy", but I'll still refrain.

Actually I've been surprised a number of times at the true gender of a poster, so I try not to personify them anymore without some kind of clue. But they still seem to drift in my mind into one category or the other, and not always the correct one.

I think I thought she was a guy just from the name: Andrast just seems like a man's name, though I don't know why.

I must confess I thought you were a guy for a while, Zilverzmurfen, until some of your posts showed me the error of my ways.

I hate to say it, but I also thought she was a guy. (Wicked sorry, AV.) I didn't get the reference, as I always named the Morrigan as my celtic warrior goddess of choice. Then again, I occasionally do SCA things, and half the time I'm not sure what gender someone is after I've been speaking with the person for 10 minutes, so I'm not a very good judge of these things.

Some time ago, I taught middle school (I got better). I had a kid in class that I just assumed was a girl. *For several months.* One of those androgynous names, really androgynous features. Finally the kid got up the nerve to explode on me while we were doing masculine/feminine adjectival agreement or something like that. Seems I'd been using the wrong endings for him for a looong time. My bad. He's probably still in therapy. Or the SCA.

And how were we supposed to figure out what sex Andrast is? Not as if it's an easily-categorized name. The only other clue was the avatar, which didn't look too feminine.

    Why wouldn't I think you're a guy?
Just because you have the right, that doesn't mean it is right.

Being male, I assume everyone is also a male until there is clear indication otherwise. Sometimes it's a screen name like Swordwench, or Maeve_Mari, or an avatar like Zilversmurfens, or Elendae's, sometimes it's things they say, like Westley, or keywords like Bra, thong, or foil.

    (just kidding about the foil)

But the androgenous names like Go Fencing or ThatreallyHurt don't really offer any clues.

    Does that help?

And btw, your name isn't all that clear either. Just so you know.

Yep, that's why I included a picture in my Profile. I would have used a fencing picture, but I tend to look like something from a Woody Allen movie.

Well, well, imagine my surprise when I logged on and discovered that there was a poll....about me.

Well, I must say that there has been quite some confusion about my gender recently. so far 18 people think I was a guy. O well, I guess this is what happens when on the internet. Now, at least everyone knows that i'm not a guy.

BTW I know that the Morrigan is the celtic goddess most commonly associated with war but I didn't want a user ame so ....violent. She is the godess of war, stife, battle, and destruction. Andrast (actually, I spelled the name wrong when i was typing in my username. There is an a or e at the end.(?) That'll teach me to proof read )is the the goddess or war, but also of victory and she was alos a goddess of divination. sorry about the rambling

Also i must add that there are people on this forum that I was surprised to find out that they were a girl. So no worries everybody!

I'm just wondering, has there ever been a case were people thought that someone was a girl and then only to discover that they are in fact a guy?
To me it seems that people are just mostly mistaken for guys.

Your screenname is reasonably like a guy's name, and your avatar is as well. I thought you were probably a guy for awhile.
