| Let's Dance!! Does anyone here have any experience with dance? What types?
I've been looking into taking Tango lessons in my area and I was just curious about other peoples experiences.
This thread was partly inspired by the original Japanese "Shall We Dance" which I highly recomend.

| yeah, i danced for ten years. age five to fifteen. ballet the entire time, pointe for five years, jazz for two. was a member of the charlotte city ballet company for four years. oh and i dabbled in modern, tap, and cecchetti for a few summers. it was tons of fun but it became too serious, i didnt want it to be my life. too bad thats what fencing has turned into now :P

| I've always said it is easier to say what I haven't done in partner dance. I've done American, Historical, International, Country, Ballet, West Coast, Square Dancing, Contra, English Country, etc. Saying you want to learn Tango is almost as bad as saying you want to learn Waltz or dance. It is a broad category.
There is International Tango where the upper body is rigid and the steps are sweeping.
Argentine where the upper body is almost as rigid and all the movement comes from the feet and legs.
American has the most upper body movement and you can open so you do not rigidly face your partner. Also you can do some steps with only connection of one hand.
There is the 20's Tango, which would appear jerky, with quick changes.
These are the only 4 I know well enough to describe.
To tell how I feel about dancing in general. At a NCAA Nationals, whenever I wasn't around the coach always knew where I would be, they would just listen for the music in the dance classes.

| When i was little i did tap and little kid ballet.. but they "asked me not to come back" beacuse "the poor girls center of balence is off.. and.. she isn't a very good dancer" So i stayed away from dance for a long time!!!!
Now I am very into swing... East coast, west coast (only a little) and i have attempted lindy but it confuses me too much.. I can make my way throguh a basic cha cha... and i hope to learn my way through all different types of ballroom beacuse they are a lot of fun to do.. And i am not a fan of "buckel polishing" as my dance teacher calls it... So i have to have somthing to do at school dances!
I also did some square dancing on new years eve that was great fun... And i think that trying to dance while attached to afencing reel, should be considered an art form in itself! |

| Did ballet for 6 months when I was about 4. Did a year of semi regular ballroom when I was in London, did 6 months of swing when I moved down here. Would love to do more BUT I am very time poor.
