Zappa will become famous soon enough
Fencing in NYC

I'm going to be in New York City sometime around november. I wanted to do a little fencing while i'm there. Is there anyone on the board who's from NYC or has done some fencing there? Are many of the clubs there open to visiting fencers? How much do you think it would cost me to fence for about two weeks? I wanted to take the time to fence in some of the local clubs and maybe get some private instruction. Anyone got some info?

Zappa,

If you feel like checking out some classical and historical fencing, the Martinez Academy is in NYC. Visitors are welcome and the first lesson is always free. Check the class times section on www.martinez-destreza.com

Well, it's my personal opinion that for quality the New York Fencer's Club cannot be beaten. We've got a bunch of really good fencers in all weapons and I believe that the floor fee is $10. As per lessons, I believe that you need to be a member to take them, but I could be wrong. Lessons tend to run about $25 for half an hour if you can get one, although the coaches seem to always have packed schedules (this is assuming that you'd be allowed to take them). There's also Metropolis and the NYAC, but I believe that the NYAC is invitation only. I've never personally been to Metropolis, so I can't speak about it.

Hmm, I need to brush up on my knowledge, I don't seem to be certain of anything!

I live in NYC, I fence at metropolis. Nice
bunch of people, good variety of skill levels
,to fence with. Floor fee, $5, Equipment $5,
should you need it.Private Lessons $25, Group
Lessons 3/$25.My coach is Zadick Longenbach,
a really nice guy. Patient, teaches children
thru advanced fencers. I highly recomend him.
As for bouting, there's so many fencers,
I sure have *NO* problem getting all the bouts I can handle. So, three replies, three
places to fence. I'm sure you'll find one to
your liking. If I see ya, I'll be more than
happy to oblige ya ;^)

Mango-

I'm not really sure what you mean?
Metropolis? There's only the front elevator,
that I'm aware of. But then it's only on the
2nd floor, I always take the stairs. Maybe
you could clue me in on this one?
