Array Argh....nut problems... No....not that kind! Sheesh!
Put a brand new epee blade on a grip...started tightening, but I think it cross-threaded and I started backing it off to check...noe the pommel nut (outside hex) is almost at the top pf the tang, but no matter how much I turn it, it won't come off...nor can I tighten it...it turns easily, but it's stuck in one place.
Suggestions??? -

Array If it is still at the top of the blade, you may be able to get a pair of needle-nose vice grips, clamp down on it and turn it as you pull it off, this is my best bet.

-Tre' Won't work...the grip doesn't come up far enough to clear the square part of the tang.... -
put the blade in a vice, then pull up on the handel and use your wrench to back the nut off. the nut is probably stripped and that's what's causing your problem -
If you absolutely must, in a very desperate situation; the final answer I think would be to take out a dremmel cutting tool. Then cut the nut in half, while not hitting the tang at all. Of course, I'm sure (and hope) that you'll find a better solution before this. The sweet is never sweet without the sour. -

Array I can't believe that no one has made a joke about the title...
First, lubricate the part. Then try all of the above methods again. Otherwise, you can probly use a dremmel or a hacksaw to cut off the nut while keeping the blade intact, depending on position.
Might I also suggest that the nut is not in fact on the tang but merely jammed in the grip? Pedicabo ego vos et irrumabo,

Array Got it!! Thanks, smeric28!!
The top 1/4" ir so of the tang was stripped...ruined the nut, too. Ran my 6mm die down the tang, cut off the stripped part...all together now!!
Whew!! It was a new blade, too!
Gotta remember that! -

Gotta remember that! Was it an StM by any chance? I have had a devil of a time with their tangs lately, espcially the ones that ELI sells and I was wondering if it is just me... Just another lost soul saved by the (hit) First Church of EPEE!

Yeah, it was....but this is not a common occurance for me (I had the same thing happen on a Leon Paul FIE foil blade a few weeks back), so I suspect the cross-threading was my fault...although it sure FELT like the nut was going on smoothly...
