Will the new Pope support fencing?

The rumor mill has it that there's a push amongst the Cardinals to elect a new Pope that supports fencing in the Church. The traditionalists are against this, of course, even though there is some legitimacy in Sanctified Epee Communion (circa 1801, I believe).

So be sure to get out and vote on Catholic Election Day! Make sure your electors are aligned behind the appropriate pro-fencing Cardinal. If you don't vote and pray, you can't complain later...

first I'd need to know how much the Pope REALLY decides himself and how much is being decided by all those well dressed men he's surrounded by.....

What could be worse than not one, but two leaders in fencing. "King Rene" and the pope! We'll all be wearing lexan masks, throwing holy water at each other instead of saluting, saying "peace be with you" when we shake hands, and foilists will still be fencing in this new stranger way.

I think he'll have to wear the latest model needed for World Championships, the visor mask, so we can all watch his face when he fences. It'll ease us in supporting him morally......

...And he won't need anyone to direct his bouts, since he's infallible (or is that only in matters of the Church?).

Now, let's look to history. If a Pope can ban crossbows (see Innocent II), and civil governments can ban "case of rapier" (two rapiers - after all, anybody walking around with 2 swords was just looking for trouble), then I'd be more worried about the new Pope outlawing fencing altogether. But if his name is Bubba Joe I or sumthin', I'm sure we'll still be allowed to use compound bows and semi-automatic weapons, and marry our immediate family. Amen.
